Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Twersty and I scanned and distributed over 20 years worth of Plomb and Proto catalogs a few years back. You can find most of them here: http://https://forum.toolsinaction.com/tags/plomb%20tools/

Does it still make sense to buy 3/4 drive tools?

I snatched up a mint Proto set probably 5 or 6 years ago for $125. It was literally unused. Guy was a sales rep for MSC, left the job and sold off a sample set he had. I couldn’t afford not to buy it. That’s what I told Mrs. Conductor at least. In that time span I’ve used it a few times. Mostly...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Nothing wrong with paying what they’re worth to you. Been there done that. Don’t quote me on this, but back when we were buying, scanning, and posting all the old Plomb catalogs we could find, we found an article somewhere that talked about Plomb shifting it’s focus at some point in the 20’s...

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Awesome score, but man did you pony u for them. I bet the seller **** his pants watching that bid run up. When Twersty and I started searching and scanning 1926 was the oldest we could find and it was labeled catalog #6. I don’t know if catalogs were produced annually like the were later on, or...

    Rotar Group of Taiwan?

Rotar did make, and probably still make, a lot of the Kobalt stuff. I haven’t kept up with Kobalt for awhile, but I’m sure not much has changed.

Huge vices- are they worth more or less?

I have a massive Columbian 608. 8" jaws, weighs right around 200 lbs., lead screw is pretty close to 36" long and I'm guessing 1-3/4" round, and even then the handle is only around 24" long. If the handle truly is 36" long, it's got to be massive!

    Proto versus Snap On

The Proto XL's might just be the most under appreciated ratchets on the market. Very smooth and strong, and not bad to look at either.

    60 gallon compressor $800 budget

I went through the same thing a couple years back. My decision was pretty much the 5 hp 60 gallon, single stage, IR @ TSC or the 2 stage HF. I pretty much decided on the IR after it was recommended here, but I got cold feet after finding out they had been cheapened up recently (at that time)...

    Old tool brands to avoid

Nobody has mentioned the old Task Force stuff. When I was a kid it was the bottom of the barrel. Even as a 10 year old kid trying to tighten the chain on my bicycle, my taste for quality exceeded Task Force's ability to deliver.

MAC or Snap On 1/2 impact

I like the Mac AWP050/Proto J150WP personally. Might want to check out the Proto J150WP. It's the same exact gun as the Mac (minus the shroud around the trigger) and can be had for under $300. I've been using it since it came out a couple of years ago and it's a great gun. The internals are...

    IR R1120/1130 VS Milwaukee 2456/2457

I hate the way the battery is set up on the IR. IR cordless tools are solid, but that battery is just awkward IMO
