Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

Thanks Don, I read thru your project and I must say I am impressed. Although my place is no where near as big as yours, they both serve their purpose for the space we have. (but hats off to yours regardless!) to answer your question, I have the 4 chain pots in the center for the torque box...

Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

Dang! Thanks for the offer but its too late, I bought a decent older Kansas Jack model off craigslist already. Had a new pump on it & he threw in a gallon of oil & helped me load it up. (That in itself is worth it, I'm sure you know if you've moved yours solo before!)

Thanks! And actually they are installed in the slab. there is rebar thru the center of each pipe, that's what holds the chain into the pipe. then each pot is tied into the rebar of the slab. I put duct tape over each so the concrete wouldn't get into it when it was poured. Also, I made them...

These are the frame post pulling chain pots. 2 3/8" fence pipe, 3500# chain, with rebar thru the center to keep the chains in place. They get tied into the rebar and concrete poured flush over them. When they're not in use the chain goes into the pipe so its flush with the floor. got the...

Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

Thanks! It's coming along quite nice already. I decided to do the pole barn style with a single slope "shed" roof since its faster and cheaper, 2 things I need at this point. Its all steel construction so there's no rotting posts in my future. 5x5x1/8th posts, wall purlins are 4x30, roof...

Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

This is the rough sketch on MS paint. I was going to go 30x50 but didn't want to take up too much space since I want a nice enclosed porch out back and a pool, as well as lots of room for the kids to play and build a swingset/playhouse for them and have open space for the dogs to play. It will...

Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

Had to fence the place in 1st.... all the lots here are an acre or more. But I prefer to keep people OUT and leave me alone, because someone always wants me to fix their car. So the less people who can see or know what I do the better off I am! Since almost all my tools are in a storage unit...

Building own personal Auto Body Shop in Texas

Been lurking on this site for awhile getting some ideas and whatnot. I had a 2 car, 26x24 garage at my old house in the suburbs of Houston. I do auto body work for myself, mainly buying and selling cars/trucks for side cash as a hobby. (I used to do it full time but I got wise at a young age and...

    Rafter J Forgeworks- Texas

Very nice looking shop you got there. Nothing like the Hill Country, but I'm attached to my East Texas roots and all these pines...if not, I too would be out that way!

    Limestone 24' x 12' Motorcycle Garage/Workshop in Australia

That is a gorgeous shop you've made! I love the brick and wood idea. Sometimes having a council & needing permits is a good thing. (I'm out in the country so anything goes, which can be good and bad) But your shop is truly amazing for the restrictions you may have encountered.

    Computers in the garage

^ this is the truth. I'm in the auto body business, have been for a long time, and dust + computers is a bad mix, worst than heat. We kept all our paint mixing and estimating computers in cabinets with plexiglass front panels, and air holes drilled into the backside for ventilation. I'm...

    New Member from Southeast Texas

Hey y'all, I've been lurking around here as a guest for over a year, figured it was time to join and share! I'm northeast of Houston, TX. Just sold my house in the suburbs and finally found my chunk of the promised land at the end of a dirt road in the country, hence my screen name. Time to...

    shadetree shed 25x30

:thumbup:Lookin good so far! I too just joined to add my build thread to this site. And more power to ya for the patience of dealing with all that snow, what a setback that can be. Only time I was ever in Canada was to go see Niagara Falls IN JANUARY. Wow, was it cold!
