    Soft Start?

Currently I've got a Generac GP15000 which runs everything, but the thing is loud and eats fuel like gas prices were in the late 80s, early 90s. Because of this, and power outages usually only lasting a few hours and only happening a few times a year.. sometime no outages in a year .. I picked...

    Torsion Spring broke, now what?

I threw out my back trying to open this thing, so I got on the phone. Called a Clopay dealer and 3 other shops. Funny thing is, the Clopay dealer had the lowest price and would use Clopay springs. Based on the door model, she also stated Clopay recommends uses 2 different sized springs for my...

    Torsion Spring broke, now what?

I tried to weigh the door and it was a no go.. When I try and lift the door, it feels like it's 500 pounds. When I put it on a scale, it comes in a 112 lbs. There's no way a insulated 16x8 door only weights 112 lbs. Thanks for the chart, but I doubt I can use it.

    Torsion Spring broke, now what?

Was the replacement the same size spring that broke or did you "Upgrade" for a longer life cycle? Personally, I'm not worried about cycles because I'm planning on being out of here in the next year. Still I need to know what size spring I can get away with.

    Torsion Spring broke, now what?

Haha.. I am going to call him to help me fix mine, but if I remember correctly, he ordered the door and it came with all the parts based on the door. I think he's as clueless as I, when it comes to the actual spring.

    Torsion Spring broke, now what?

I've got a 16 x 8 garage door and the right (red) torsion spring broke. I can't find my dial calipers to to see how think the springs are.. Below is what I found on the door. Clopay Model 1000 1 ea 1600 2 1/4 24ga Struts 1 ea 1609 Torsion Tube. I did measure the broken spring as best I...

Welder - What's your thoughts on this cheap combo?

It's both.. Just because someone doesn't do something on a regular bases doesn't mean they don't want to learn how to do it. For example... I always wanted to learn how to make restaurant quality pizza. Last year, that was the thing I learned. Not only can I make one hella good NY style...

Welder - What's your thoughts on this cheap combo?

1st let me say I've never welded a thing in my life, unless you want to call a few spot welds in 7th grade metal shop welding... And that was probably 35 years ago. 2nd, I do have some friends that weld on a fairly regular bases because of their job as mechanics... One even fabricates stuff...

    Dehumidifier for garage

I would say so.. My dehumidifier definitely blows warm air.. But it pulls so much water out, it's not funny.

    Central air icing up

I'm going with the low refrigerant group, based on you needing a fill before.. If there's no leak, you should never need to add refrigerant.. it's a sealed system. Take some soapy water and see if you have a leak at your valves... Last couple of friends that needed a fill, only ended up...

    AC condensor not running

Thanks for the update! BTW, what brand of cap did you go with? I keep a Protech spare on hand... A couple weeks ago, it came in handy for a friend of mine.. He's AC went out on a Sat night.. Sunday, he was running around looking for one and it just happened the one he needed was the same as...
