Removing recessed one way security screws

Same as the link in first post (which opens fine for me). Surprisingly small size. If it had been ground level I could have probably kicked the damn thing off.

Removing recessed one way security screws

Done. The previous owners went easy on me and only installed 8 of the 12 possible screws. - #5 60 degree HSS center drill - #1 from this HF set I quite like the HF extractor set. I didn't want the type that had the drill on one end and the extractor on the other. No clue if they'd hold...

Removing recessed one way security screws

According to the markings on the bars, they are these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E7PT3K2?tag=atomicindus08-20 INSTALLATION – This window security bar features a fully adjustable telescoping width (prior to mounting) from 32-1/2 inch to 54 inch, and it comes complete with one-way...

Removing recessed one way security screws

It's funny you mentioned this. I was talking to someone who recently installed a set and they said the bars came with one-way screws. They're an interior use item. I can only assume the mfgr was sued and started shipping them with one way screws. Unreal. As I said I have a friend who's...

Removing recessed one way security screws

Ignoring the challenge of trying to grab onto a round head using needlenose pliers :) Needlenose won't fit. The hole is way too small. The bars are 3/4" and the screw head is on the back wall. Applying some math, to get the head of the needlenose to just go around the head, set 3/4"...

Removing recessed one way security screws

Again the head of the screw is recessed inside the tubing. So I can't use pliers. The access hole in the face of the tubing isn't that wide. I have some carbide burr bits for a dremel but they're going to bounce around like crazy off the head. I'd have more luck chucking a 3/8 end mill...

Removing recessed one way security screws

https://www.amazon.com/Prime-Line-650-7905-Remover-Driver-Multi-Bit/dp/B0BHTWBM59?tag=atomicindus08-20 So I guess they're available just as bits, not as a complete screwdriver. I think I might have a couple of these bits lying in an old toolbox, I never knew what they were for before else it...

Removing recessed one way security screws

I've seen this style but I had low desire to drop $18+shipping on a tool I'm likely never going to use again.

Removing recessed one way security screws

I'd already stumbled on those Ryobi (Gooling) but had discounted them because dozens of the reviews (a to me statistically significant number) say they don't work to remove. There are literally 230 one-star reviews.

Removing recessed one way security screws

A bit? I wasn't aware there was a removal bit for these. This was plan B, destructive removal. I'd prefer not to as I know someone who could use a set of bars (they're about to have a kid).

Removing recessed one way security screws

The previous owners of our house installed child window guards on the interior. I now see why they didn't remove them. They used one way security screws :-( I've removed plenty where the head is exposed but these are recessed inside the 3/4" square tubing. So I can't grind a notch into...

    Source for these "spring" clips?

Thanks. I think I saw those when I was searching. It seems (to me) they'd need as much re-bending work as starting from scratch with spring steel strip, but maybe I'm not thinking about it correctly?

    Source for these "spring" clips?

I assumed these were a "spring clip" but maybe they go by a different name as my search foo wasn't finding me much that was visually similar. It's a die from a crimping tool. Hard to find so I was going to cnc mill something. I was hoping to find a COTS "clip" that was similar to the one...

    Harbor Freight engine hoist

So I checked CL before I posted. Nothing interesting. Checked again at 4pm and 15 mins earlier this popped up for $50. Score.

    Harbor Freight engine hoist

Seems to be referring to a fault in the silver 2-ton not the 1-ton. The Sunex/HF comparison video referenced is useful. Yeah. More reach might be useful. It was something I was pondering. Thanks. I'll check it out. $150 locally is what I'm seeing the 1-ton for. I've seen a few...
