Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

Gather round, one and all, and listen while I tell you how I ran over my own foot...with my own car...and I was driving. So, I was out delivering newspapers and needed to stop and get out to put one in a tube that was too far off the road to get by sticking my arm out the window. I put the...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

Since my current job has a rather "sink or swim" approach to training and I mostly work solo, I have a fairly large store of "Shouldn't be left unsupervised " material. To start: the day I tried to weld with my wire strippers. So, 4 lamp ballast have three pairs of wires leading to the...

Hollow shaft nut driver with the widest "hollow"

So, a big part of my current job is replacing lighting ballasts. They're typically mounted to the fixture with a nut on a stud. 1/4 or 3/8, usually. Anyway, I have a set of Klein magnetic hollow shaft nut drivers that I can't use because the studs are wider than the opening. What brands of nut...

    Identifying some vintage wrenches.

The larger wrench is a 10mm wrench and smaller one is a 9mm. The larger one is .180 in thick and the smaller one is .125 in thick. I'm going with "unknown origins". Thanks for the assistance, everyone. I'm really impressed with the depth of knowledge on GJ. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

    Identifying some vintage wrenches.

The best I've been able to come up with was a mention in an 1890 engineering publication (Thank you Google Books) of a W. Hutton & Sons out of Sheffield, England. They manufactured cutlery. Maybe the wrenches came out of their toolroom. Who knows. Thanks to everyone for their input. Sent from...

    Identifying some vintage wrenches.

I was moving some things around and found these. I believe that they belonged to my great-grandfather. One says "1921 W. Hutton" and the other just says "W. Hutton". If anyone knows anything about the company, I'd appreciate it if you'd share some knowledge with me. Thanks Sent from my Pixel XL...

    Code for temperature of wire?

So, NM-B (Romex) is temperature rated. It breaks down into several different classes, the lowest of which is 60° C (147° F). Tbh, sizing for the proper amperage is more important than the temperature rating. 14 Gauge wire for 15 amp circuits and 12 for 20 amp ones. YMMV. Just in case I'm wrong...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

One mod complete and two in the works. I completed a hammer rack using three 5/16-18 u-bolts. I'm about halfway through fabbing a power tool rack out of three 8 inch lengths of 3 inch PVC. I'm waiting for a particular type of side tray to arrive in the mail and once that happens, it SHOULD be...

Modifications to the HF 4 and 5 drawer service carts - what changes have you made?

I'm in the process of putting magnetic strips on the inside of the lids and, with three generations worth of accumulated fasteners hiding in various drawers, there is not one 1/4-20 nut to be found. 😂 Or four matching nuts and bolts of any other size. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

I'm talking about the tubes underneath the shelf that hold your drills. I believe that you referred to them as "fork cans". Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
