Need vent fitting with drain for Hot Dawg heater?

I have a similar setup and opted not to use the condensate fitting... in my heater manual is said this was only a requirement for commercial installs. I did use Category III venting (which is a sealed single wall) vs. the B-Type (double wall). If you want to stay in code, you need to use Cat...

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

Looks really nice - congrats! Funny how these seamingly simple jobs end up being so big... mine all started with seeing the heater on sale at Northern and impulse buying without much forethought. That was by far the easiest step haha

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

Very clever solution... it is looking great! With your humor now kicking in, I know you can see the burner lights at the end of the tunnel  It has finally started to get colder up here in MN and I'm appreciating having the heater even more. My only new "idea" is that I have a high point...

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

Yes, if you go vertical you can go type B and it gets much cheaper. I was the opposite of you, I had purchased all type-B to go vertical, then changed my mind after I got into it to go horizontal. I had purchased the Amerivent double wall stuff from Menards - they have a nice isle of these...

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

I just used some silicon lubricant that I had on hand to help get the gasket around the heater flue. I was willing to try anything at the time to just get it done without a return :willy_nil That number was provided direct from z-flex, but I actually ordered parts through supply house...

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

Nice work on that frame... I couldn't picture what you were doing - impressive! I know you're going vertical, but I used z-vent horizontal and after I had purchased they told me that the Universal Appliance Adapter wasn't going to work with this heater and that I needed a special adapter...

Install Big Maxx Vertical vs Horizontal venting?

Good to see you pulled the trigger penright... and for what it's worth, I think you made the right decision to go with the 80k. I went with that unit and I couldn't be happier. I couldn't find a smart thermostat that would go down to 30-35 degrees, so change direction and got a cheap $20...

    Venting questions

Yes, you would normally just need a firestop... but if you're going to add spray foam, you might want to use a wall thimble - what is the thickness of the foam?

Big maxx heater ecobee 4 thermostat

Just a note on using the Ecobee... I think the lowest temperature setting is 45 degrees. Depending on your garage situation, this might be too high... I wanted one that just keeps it above freezing when not actively being out there. Not many will go down to 35.

Mr. Heater Big Maxx vent adapter?

That is a great way to do it! I want your garage, which would include the lift for next time  ... and thank you sarman!

Mr. Heater Big Maxx vent adapter?

That seem really high to me penright, especially since you have gas stubbed already. Black pipe would make it more tedious, but there are other flexible options other than copper... I was very close to using CSST, but chose copper for consistency and it was also slightly cheaper. In addition...

Mr. Heater Big Maxx vent adapter?

Not as nice as LX's install (1st time doing anything like this), but here's how mine turned out this weekend. I ended up using the universal adapter and just removed the clamp on the heater side to allow me to push it fully onto the heater. Just doing a little retrospect tonight after cleaning...

Mr. Heater Big Maxx vent adapter?

I intended to purchase mine from Menards, but apparently everyone in MN bought a garage heater this year and they are sold out of materials with no ETA on restock. So I ended up going with Z-Flex and purchased from supplyhouse.com. I received my order in 2 days and all the parts look like good...

Mr. Heater Big Maxx vent adapter?

I just received the Z-flex the Universal Appliance Adapter (2ZVB04) and can see why I was later informed that it "wouldn't work" from Mr. Heater. I'm attaching 2 photos: 1. Side profile showing depth alignment of the adapter and the flue transition on the heater. The raised ring on the adapter...
