    Built a new workbench...

This is a raging debate I'm having with myself right now as I am preparing to build some workbenches for my shop. Most of mine in the past have been 32" min. in depth. But in reality I find that I often end up using that extra 12" of depth for storing stuff, like cans of lubricants and other...

a damaged transformer caused my house to only have power in half the rooms, why?

If the compressor is 220 and running on 110 wouldn't that cause a heavy amperage draw and trip out the breaker?I agree with Doyle Dee. The fans on 120 were working but I can't imagine the 220 compressor was. But then again I didn't think the fan on the compressor would come on unless the...

Any one run a used oil heater in shop?

Yep. The Lanair's I deal with require compressed air (shop air) and 120v for 2 pre-heat cartridges for the nozzle. I have to completely dismantle these about every 30 days to clean everything out. They are very high maintenance but very job securing for me. But we burn them 24/7 during the...

    neat main wiring

I used to wire up load centers in pre-built homes. I always got great satisfaction in having the panel looking clean and neat when finished. Especially when compared to what it looked like before I started with all the home runs just crammed in there. And to the non-electricians on sight who...

Any one run a used oil heater in shop?

I have dealt with Lanier quite a bit over the years. All I can say is the cleaner the oil, the better they run. We burn used diesel oil in ours. But they manage to get a host of other fluids in it that really messes things up. It seems I remember that gear oil was strongly discouraged by Lanier...

Dumbest Plumbing Question of the Day

I use a Kinetico brand for a feed to a pressure washer. It uses little salt (it does require pellet salt though). They are pricey, but are an on demand type softner.

Compressor - SOOW or THHN in Conduit

I'm not MrB but no, the pressure switch is not considered a disconnect. I would also go with the THHN in flex.

Looking good. Are those cement blocks it's sitting on, and if so what is underneath them?

    Shop lighting, new shop

I switched our shop over from 400 watt metal halides to 6 bulb T8's about 4 years ago. I flourescent fixture replaced one metal halide fixture. Have been very happy with both the light and the reduced power bill. Although I have noticed a somewhat significant ballast failure rate. But these are...

Using rubber air hose to plumb shop..

Kail, If you do have a concern about a rupture and hose whip, you could install a high flow cut-off on your system. With as few tools that you say you're running you might be able to install right off the compressor tank. I have these on each drop in my shop. But the drops are close to 20 feet...
