    LED M59 Replacement Worthwhile?

Ballasts are getting hard to find since they haven't made them in years. Your fixtures use 458 watts each. They only allowed about 60% of the total lumens to come out of the fixture. Your M59 put out 30,000-ish lumens on the day it was installed. Every day after that, it put out a little less...

LED Rope Lighting, String, Cove, Under Cabinet ????

The COB tape will do a really good job of that all by itself, but all tapes are pretty susceptible to getting covered in dust and dirt, especially in humid areas where it doesn't just blow away. You'd be surprised how much this affects the light output. You want to minimize your contact with the...

LED Rope Lighting, String, Cove, Under Cabinet ????

You only need waterproof if you know it's definitely going to get water on it directly. Regular tape can handle humidity. Just use a lens over it and you'll be fine. Bathrooms are the second most common place that tape gets used, so it's very common to do what you're doing.

LED Rope Lighting, String, Cove, Under Cabinet ????

There are channels specifically designed for coves. They angle the tape at a 45d angle for better reflectance off the ceiling which will provide more light in the room. Might be pricey, but worth it. For drivers, check out their dimmer/driver switches. Might make things a bit easier for you. Or...

LED Rope Lighting, String, Cove, Under Cabinet ????

For those thinking about using LED tape, a short tutorial: It comes in 3 main configurations, 12V, 24V and 120V. 12V and 24V is normally used inside, for safety reasons, with 24V being the overwhelmingly preferred choice. 120V is normally used outside because you can make longer runs with it...

LED Rope Lighting, String, Cove, Under Cabinet ????

Attempting to help with semantics. These names often get jumbled up, but this is the lingo that the lighting folks use. LED Rope: LED Tape: LED COB tape: LED String: LED Strip: LED Neon: Hopefully that helps the conversation. CD

    250 watt HPS fixture

Equating HPS lamps to LED lamps can be tricky. There's a lot of things to consider to get it right. Here's what's happening in the existing HPS system. Although the bare lamp emitted around 25,000 lumens, your fixture is only about 70% efficient, so you never got the full effect of the bare...

THHN double the price of Romex?

Wire prices can swing wildly in either direction at any time, mostly because copper is a traded commodity (but also for a whole slew of other reasons). The large disparity that you're seeing right now is likely the result of this. If your supplier bought NM at one point when copper prices were...

New fast EV chargers and three phase power

That charger isn't just 3 phase, it's also 277/480 volts. I wasn't aware that you could have 277 or 480 at a residence. Maybe it's different rules in different places. Sparky?? CD

    Off-branded receptacles and switches

Recommend testing the connectors first. The fixture wires seem to be getting smaller and smaller. I have some Wago levers that wont hold fixture wires. Same for the stab-ins. Just check before installing. CD

Garage, shop lighting design ideas...2400 sq. ft

The diffusers are actually supposed to be there. If you think back to the old domed highbays, you always had diffusers, either spun aluminum or prismatic acrylic. The aluminum was typically used on higher ceilings to help focus the beam onto the target. The acrylic was used for the opposite...

Hyperlite is a make-believe brand rather than an actual manufacturer. Their products are made by contract manufacturers, who's names you'll never know, and then labeled and boxed with Hyperlite logos. They do a good bit of marketing of their name, trying to earn some sort of brand recognition so...
