    BendPak HD-9ST install today

I buy the "goofed up product no matter where its made" but I have been "reengineering" an awful lot of "made in China" stuff lately.

    BendPak HD-9ST install today

Did they go the "made in China" route also? Will explain the workmanship.

    Painted drywall

Actually if the garage is attached, the common wall has to be covered with 5/8" sheet rock and finished with at least two coats of mud. (at least here in NJ) I used semi gloss paint since it is not too shiny and can be cleaned. Just don't use cheap paint.

    how large of a compressor

You can figure this one really easy. Each tool consumes ** cfm. What tools you use equals the size of the compressor. Remember, bigger is better.

Tig welder for a total newbie.

"They MIG welded it" Actually, BMW glued a lot of it. Cole, I have MIG welded many feet but I don't consider myself an expert welder especially when it comes to suspensions on a M3 or race car (street cars are no problem). If you have confidence in yourself or a relative or friend, MIG weld it.

Tig welder for a total newbie.

BMWs have tissue paper metal frames (I have one and have reinforced everything). Save you money and have it done professionally by someone who has experience welding BMWs. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-91-e46-rear-chassissubframe-reinforcement-kit.aspx

    Garage layout opinion

Go deep. That would give you about 12 feet in front of the cars which is useful space. Going wide would give you about 6 feet of space which is "almost" useful.

Need some help with garage sizing...

I do'nt know what part of the country you're in but "under $50" is cutting it real close. My garage is 26x30 with a BMW, Chevelle, and a Oliver wood lathe and Rockwell metal lathe and the dog has to squeeze by. I'm planning on adding a 36x26 three car garage to make the present garage all...

    2x4 or 2x6

I'm building a 34x26 with 2x6s 12 ft. high. Big difference is cost but using 2x4s on 16" centers and 2x6s on 24" centers is not that much different. I'm going with 16".

20x17 or 17x20 or even larger? (long)

Most "small" cars today are around 15 ft. long so leaving about two feet behind the car to the garage door leaves you with zero in front. A typical single car garage is 12 foot wide so with your 20 feet you have 8ft x 17ft for a workshop. Is it doable, heck yes, but as everyone will tell you...

    Ouch!

If you mean a garage shell on a slab, that's dirt cheap in my neck of the woods.

Neat solution for adding another circuit if out of panel space for a breaker.

The ingenuity of some people is just awesome. I would have just used alligator clips.
