Stihl 460 or Husqvarna 365 or Dolmar 79000

I have all three and my go to saw is the Dolmar. Dolmar is a very old company and makes good saws.

    Monarch Add-A-Furnace (wood) any info?

I have a Monarch wood stove. They were the last gasp of the Monarch Range & Stove Company. Became popular in the 70's. If you plan to fire it there are a few things to inspect first. Open the door and inspect the fire grates. They did not use fire brick but instead used cast iron grates to...

Why did I involve my wife (Window opinion)

The pictures do not show the whole house to get the idea of how many windows are there. I think it would look strange to have a long run of wall with no windows to break it up. The added benefit of natural light is nice. Let there be light.

    HELP! My concrete pad nightmare...

I would tell the Contractor to start over. If the crew was bad enough to do the walls like that, it makes me wonder what else they did poorly. When the slab is torn out you will most likely find more poor work.

    Decent oil can

I collect old oil cans. The Eagle brand is a good one. My favorite brand are the Goldenrod oilers. Here is the address, http://www.dutton-lainson.com/categories.php?cat=31. They are made in Hastings, Nebraska. Here is some of mine. These are a few of Eagle and Goldenrod.

    MIOSHA inspector------Really?

Reading this thread about an OSHA Inspector reminded me of something that happened years ago. As an excavating and grading Contractor, I had a contract with a Federal Agency involving moving 28K yards of fill. The Contracting Officer for the agency was known as being hard nose with...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

torqueman2002, Found the problem, the contact switch was bent enough that it was not closing the points. I just tried a couple of test fits till it had a closed circuit setting still. A slight bend was all it needed. Assembled and tried it. The motor spun right up. Mounted the wheels and...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I have an update about the old grinder. After some more research I am convinced it is a 115.19500. I decided to do a test assembly since it came to me in pieces. Found the toggle switch was bad. Installed a new switch and started it with no wheels. It growled for a second and slowly...

jakemac wrote--------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have the same 115.19500 grinder with a 4-56 date code that I posted in here somewhere. Dave - try looking at the label under a magnifying glass, you may be able to faintly read the faded ink that way...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

drivesitfar, Sorry about the HP rating, I edited the post. While I was waiting for the pics to upload, I found a 1 HP block on CL in St. Louis. Hurriedly sent an e-mail asking for a phone number. A few minutes later the add was deleted. I guess 1 HP was on my mind. I have to wonder...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I don't want to be a post hog but I thought this grinder deserved it's own post. All of my grinders were CL finds, as was this one. I called the fellow and went to see it. Very nice man, more of a desk guy than a bench guy. He told me that his Farther-in-law bought it new and gave it to him...

Forgot to add some pics of a few of my other grinders. The 3/4 HP has not had the wheels trued yet.

OK, bear with me as I try to add some pictures of the work in progress as well as some of my other grinders. I admit, I have never added pictures before. There are no bolt holes under the end frames for mounting a capacitor. Thus the question about the capacitor. The name plate is very...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

Hello fellow "Block Heads". I have been fond of flat and round top Craftsman grinders for years. I have collected several versions except the 1 HP model. Enjoyed reading the posts about them, having learned a lot from this forum. I now have a few questions about an old round top that was...

    rebar spacing

I have laid more than my share of mud. All on public contracts that Engineers designed. You have been given some sound advice, in laying a sub base of 4" thick of 1" base rock, compacted very well. A wire tied grid of #4 rebar on 18" centers, supported on rebar chairs to place it in the...
