New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

Or if I use the LED lights I currently have, 15 watt, 1500 lumen per lamp. I would need 42 of these. Seems a bit much.:wtf: Let me know what I am doing wrong, please.

New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

AuroraSC, Lets see if I am doing this correctly: For a 32' x 35' x 9' high garage at 50 foot candles, it would call for 12 fixtures each having 2 lamps, each lamp being 2900 lumens, for a total of 69,600 lumens. Is this correct? If so, I should have no problems seeing things in there...

New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

Yes, I have 4 lights on one switch (walk through lights) and the other 12 on another switch (none of which are cans). I did put 3 recessed cans over an area where we will have a TV and will have these on a dimmer. We spend a lot of time in our garage. :)

New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

I think myself and many others will agree with you, but from what I read this is actually underestimating the correct amount of lumens needed. Some formulas have you multiply 1.42 to the 55,000 lumens that I came up with (Not exactly sure on the number) to account for some sort of loss of...

New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

Thanks, I've been checking on the amount of light (foot candles) I would want and came to the conclusion that 50 foot candles (general work shop lighting = 50-100 foot candles) would seem appropriate for my garage......Until I did the foot candle calculation. You take the square footage...

New house and Garage. I want to do the lighting correctly

It's a 1,100 sq ft garage with 9' ceiling. This will be finished in sheet rock. I want good lighting to work on vehicles and various projects and would like the lights mounted to the ceiling for the most clearance. I will have in-floor heat and plan on spending a lot of time out there working...

Correct size wire to feed house and Shed

The electrical inspector just got back to me and it seems a though it is mostly dependent on the load calculation. The funny thing (to me) is that he verified the 4/0 is rated to 180 amp as wyliesdiesels mentioned, but the he also said we could still use a 200 amp breaker in the panel. How do...

Correct size wire to feed house and Shed

Yes you are correct. Sorry if my verbiage is confusing people. My electrician says we should run a 4/0, 4/0, 2/0 (sweetbriar) cable and a #6(?) ground wire from the disconnect (secondary to load or house) Does this change things? If the images it too small, it says that the meter goes to the...

Correct size wire to feed house and Shed

Thanks for the info, if you don't mind I have a couple more questions for you. I am not well versed in this, but if I am going to question my electrician, I would like as much information as possible. Yes, this will be a new house: Say the load calc is very low, say 100amp max, most appliances...

Correct size wire to feed house and Shed

Not to question you, but I need to question you on this. :) From your knowledge, what is the acceptable wire size for a 200 amp panel. also what is acceptable for a 100 amp panel. I will want to put in a 100 amp panel in my shop for welders, heaters, lights, compressor, block heaters, etc...

LED lights suggestion for my shed

Thanks, Where do I find information on how many lights I would need and the wattage, lumens, etc. of each one? That's my big issue. An 8' ceiling will use much different lights and spacing than a 14' ceiling.

LED lights suggestion for my shed

Forgive me if this has been discussed multiple times before, but my searching has not come up with any "newer" suggestions. Many are two years or more old and are not relevant to my ceiling height and bulb type (LED's), etc. I have a new 36' x 56' shed with 14' ceilings. I want to put LED...

Correct size wire to feed house and Shed

We are having the electrical company put their transformer and service (?) away from the house so as not to be an eyesore. MY main concern is voltage drop and wire size. My questions are: Run #1- From the electrical service(?) to the houses 200 amp panel, I plan on running 4/0 (Sweetbriar)...
