Take off the radiator cap. Start the engine when it is cold. If you see bubbles coming up it means it has a bad head gasket, or crack in the head or cylinder liner.
Palmgren makes some nice ones. I have one that both angles and swivels. You can find them on eBay. Mine I can bolt down on a milling machine, drill press, or surface grinder. Would work on a bench also. Depends how accurate you want/ need one to be.
