    Batt insulation vs spray foam?

If you fill walls with blown in insulation, does it not have a tendency to settle? I thought that was always an issue with blowing in the wall cavities. I am preparing for a new shop and home build and starting to research options. I am hoping to get the shell of the shop put up and do as...

Mechanics problem solved with sacrificial wrench

I have a few wrenches that I have ground down, bent... I first figure out what size I need and then go get some really cheap, crappy wrench. Adjust it to fit the need, use it and the mark what it is used for. I keep them together in a drawer and search that first before modifying another...

Who else works on projects a little at a time?

I work though my projects a little at a time. Some evenings after work if time permits, I will get in 1-1.5 hours. Between the 2 days I will average about 8 hours per weekend in my shop. I have been working on the projects more during COVID and have tackled some stuff on my cars I otherwise...

4 post and scissor lift - want thoughts/feedback

@eystein - Yes, I did consider a 2-post lift. I would have preferred that over the mid-rise scissor lift, however I am renting my shop space. Because of this, I was unsure of how the floor was poured and unsure if the landlord would allow for me to cut and re-pour if needed, or allow me to...

    Shop vac filter tip!

That is a fantastic idea. With the wire cage, it will be stronger and many of these types of filters are designed so they can be blown out and not fall apart. I will have to take a look to see if I can find one for mine. Thanks for the tip!

    Tiny Workshop Inspiration

We have not been to Kauai yet, but have made it to O'ahu, Maui and The Island of Hawaii. Our family just loves the people, culture and environment that Hawaii offers. Owning a property there is a dream of ours...Congratulations. Our daughter is hoping to move to Hawaii someday, she is...

    Labeling toolbox drawers

I select the top drawer, that would allow me to relive my 20's a bit. :rocker: Even then, I was never a fan of the bottom drawer. 18 years of a happy marriage now gives no reason for them either.

Mid rise scissor lift vs Four post lift

As you may have noticed, there are 2 different types of scissor lifts: -"Open Center" like the one I listed in my post. These are drive on/over and there is nothing between the left and right "ramp". I have seen a few posts where people made a platform that goes over the lower torsion bars to...

Mid rise scissor lift vs Four post lift

Good Morning, I have both a Mid-Rise (although the manufacturer refers to it as a low rise) along with a 4 post lift. Here is a thread that I started where I asked for feedback: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=464782 Here is the Mid-Rise that I have...

4 post and scissor lift - want thoughts/feedback

Mine is continuing to blow the breaker. I had a dedicated circuit wired with 10 AWG stranded. Should be enough to carry a 30 Amp circuit. Not sure what is going on...have to have my electrician check it out again.

4 post and scissor lift - want thoughts/feedback

Nope, didn't anchor it at all. I have actually moved it around quite a bit initially. I am planning on another 4 post next year so things will get shifted a bit and I am renting this space. I have not put my Jeep on it yet because I need to get cross bars (similar to what you have) and am...

    Fork lift for the shop

We have one of the 3 wheel forklifts at our shop. It only has a 3k lifting capacity, but it is slightly more compact than a 4 wheel and seems to have a smaller turning radius. We have been really happy with it. I feel this would be much more versatile than a walk behind picker type. I am...

4 post and scissor lift - want thoughts/feedback

Just thought I would follow up. I have yet to do any service work using my Wildfire 4 post lift. It has been great for a storage lift, I have had a few different cars on it...very happy. The assembly went together really well, I did have a forklift available, but with that I did it all...

Running electric in new construction, surface mount or flush?

I always vote for exposed. We have exposed in 2 commercial buildings and it is so much easier to add/modify circuits and air lines. Some day I am hoping to build a shed/house (Shouse) and would used exposed in all possible locations both in the living quarters and the workspace. It is just that...

    Favorite ratchets in 2020?

I know I am late to this party. Years back, mid - late 90s, I used to manage the Hardware Department at our local Sears. It was honestly my 2nd favorite job just after my current position, which is self employment backed by a fantastic team. At that time, they used to offer rebuild kits...
