Garage on Steep Downhill Slope: compacted fill vs suspended slab

Thanks for all the comments. I'll look into spancrete or whatever they have here. The gravel road is only about 12' wide in places but it's fairly straight. A readymix truck had no problem at the neighbors so I'm guessing it'd be wide enough. But the location is 20-40' back from the road and 10'...

Garage on Steep Downhill Slope: compacted fill vs suspended slab

Hey everybody! I have a 75' wide building lot with street access from above. Average slope is 25%. I'd like to keep the garage slab only a little below the street level This would avoid a long steep driveway and walking up 2 floors. It's pretty expensive for a suspended slab using ICF decking...

    Garage Elevation Choices

Hi! I'd like to know the pros and cons of different garage slab elevation choices. I have a sloped lot whose average grade is 25%. Plan to make a 1/4 circle drive entering from the top right corner. Proposed garage corners for my 35x28 garage as shown on the sketches. The lot contour sketch has...

    Garage Foundation Choices

Thanks for the comments. Didn't see them until now. Either don't have the email notification enabled, or it doesn't work. The garage slab, which is now 28' wide, would be 2' above grade on the low side for a couple reasons. 1) it is already a steep drive, 16-25%. 2) a good place to put some of...

DIY Floor Trusses and DIY Home Building Site

Thanks for everybody's feedback. Been late responding cuz was waiting for email notification, which never happened. I have built my own roof trusses before when I built my shop. But the city did require an engineer's stamp. Don't recall how much that was, cuz he also did other work for me...

    Garage Foundation Choices

Hi! I will have a 25x25 garage built on a 25% sloped lot. Low side slab floor will be ~2' above grade, high side 6' below. I will have living space above. From what i've read, I would need footings with a stepped stem wall and a slab. This would then be 3 separate pours? Is this the best...

DIY Floor Trusses and DIY Home Building Site

Haven't been able to find a decent DIY site to post questions yet. Suggestions? I'm considering building my own floor trusses. A few questions/considerations: 1. Is this relatively easy? I've don't have a lot of wood construction experience, but built from plans my airplane. Wings and fuselage...

    Garage on Slope

Numbers actually turned out better than expected. If I put the back end of the garage, as in the sketch, 5' from the property line. Driveway would come down from the right corner going all the way diagonally across the lot. The 150 degree corner would have an 18' radius ending with a 15'...

    Garage on Slope

Anglers Haven Drive next to Deception Pass State Park. Gonna do as much of it as I can, want and afford. Only building experience is my shop and airplane. Airplane won an award, shot didn't, hehe!

    Roger that, thanks!

    Garage on Slope

Nice, but that's not on a slope. Slopes down to the house. Would consider under the house as mentioned in the last post. That would require a long C or S drive, though :-(

    Garage on Slope

Thanks, guys :-) On east side, high bank wf. No geo needed. Best place for house site is down low. Garage would be for cars and maybe a shop. If I were building up top, I'd consider the garage under the house. Down low it means a longer driveway, but that is a possibility.

    Garage on Slope

I have a 1/2 acre sloped building lot 75' wide for my house and garage. Public gravel road is at the top. Slope is 25% in the build area. Without slope considerations, I'd build a garage in front of and to the right of the house as shown in the sketch. House site could move no further down, but...
