    Just picked up this unused Record 3VS swivel vise off Marketplace for $40. Came in the (very weathered) original box. It wasn't stored properly, so there's some rust on the bare metal that needs to be cleaned off. Excited to clean this bad boy up and put it to use!

    Metl-Former vise - how to get handle off

    I just ran across this on a recent vise disassembly. There was a retaining ring (roughly the thickness of the two combined in your photo) with a small gap in the ring around a recess in the shaft. I heated the ring red hot with a propane torch, stuck a pair of stout needle nose in the 1/8" gap...
