Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

That's sort of what I was considering.. If I box it, then that raises the suspension and makes it easier to lower the fenders and rails. Win-win

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

I could, but it's actually more work than just moving the axles back.. But that wasn't my question.. I am moving the axles back.. Since I'm modifying it, I was looking for ideas on how to make the rails shorter or non existent. Everyone is fixated on the axle placement. That is not my issue...

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

It definitely is a slippery slope. A tweak here a tweak there. Before I know it's not even the same trailer. I bought it cheap enough. Could probably sell it and make a few bucks, but then I'm back to buying something or building from scratch. I guess I'm looking for a quick fix to make it more...

That's what I'd like. I wonder if I reinforce the tongue so it goes back further, that might be enough.

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

I really want all of the deck. I have a bunch of D21 pickups, some are pretty long. It's easy enough to move the axles back. This trailer is pretty low to the ground. I'd worry about ground clearance. Now if I made the rail about 6" tall on top that would be better. 🤷‍♂️

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

You're not wrong. I'm still trying to figure out a way to get everything lower without basically building a deck over. I plan to at least make new fenders that are removable. That will give me a few inches. Raising the ride height will give me a few more... Then I might as well start from...

It has torsion half axles. So "rubber band" suspension..

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

If we're being pedantic, very few cars are 50/50, but RWD cars with live axles are significantly closer than a FWD car which was my point. I agree that it was designed for FWD cars but even then, I have to load them all the way to the front (wheels as far forward as possible) to get any sort of...

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

I don't usually load FWD cars this way, it was necessary to get it out of the area I bought it. I typically haul RWD cars so more of a 50/50 weight distribution. I agree that they may have intended to have it squat when loaded or unloaded and it does that well. Also the tire rack is missing so...

Removal of side rail on old race trailer.

I bought this old homemade race trailer a bunch of years ago. Whoever the builder was, didn't understand axle placement. This thing is terrible to tow without front loading it massively. I'm going to get around to moving the axle back to make it better to tow eventually. When I do, I'd like to...
