Thanks for keeping the advice coming. I like the idea of saving the jaws, I'll do that for sure. Enough of you have suggested brazing it that I think I might try instead of just junking it.

Big thanks to all of you, I appreciate your responses! I was easily swayed by the beefiness and low price, but I guess this will be another tally in the Lesson Learned column. I doubt I'll put the effort into brazing it, but if I have a free afternoon I might take it apart just to see the crack...
