Here are some more pictures of the nut/pin. With the nut in position where the pin would line up, there is about a 1/4" gap at the front of the dovetail slot. Is this correct? It looks to me like all of the closing and opening force would be put as shear load on that pin?
I'll take a closer look, that would make more sense than what I thought I was seeing.
I have not been able to find any pre 2000 diagrams for the 648A unfortunately.
I recently acquired this 8" Wilton 648A Vise. Overall the condition seems great, but there is a broken pin that retains the vise nut. With this pin broken, the vise is able to move about 1/4" forward and back when not clamped on something. I have found a replacement nut/pin online but it says...
