What is a slip ring? Are you suggesting that I could use an air hose reel and modify it to use the extension cord?

I didn't know they could be opened up to replace the cord; that changes everything. What brand is the one you bought? Or are they all able to be opened?

I'd like to mount a spring loaded extension cord reel up high in my garage to use with my electric snow blower so that the cord goes in and out as I do. Problem is I already have a 100' 12/3 cold weather cord that I like and I haven't been able to find a product that allows you to use your own...
