The Official Reedsman thread. Reed made craftsman’s

Thanks for the ad. I took a quick look thru the posted pictures and didn't notice any of the Reedsman with removable jaws, like in the ad. Were removable jaws ever a thing on these? Thanks.

    Zip Ties / Cable Ties

A previous employer of mine used to have problems with "vendor approved" zip ties drying out and breaking when tightened. We updated our purchase spec to only call out Panduit black ties. Problems went away.

J H Williams vintage hand tools

I’ve had one of those for years. Never used it and can’t say I ever will. Has a 2-3/16” socket. Great conversation piece.

Great information. I wish more people would update this thread with the same type of info.

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

A few items I've been looking for: Spindle nut for a 106R Spindle Nut for a 104 Swivel Lockdown Handle for a 104R Original or fabricated doesn't matter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

REED R Series. Post your Reed date stamps.

Looks to me like 318 or 718 ( if upside down). That would fall in line better with the patent dates.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Is there still someone out there making and selling swivel lockdown nuts for Reeds? I have a 104R in need of one. Is the thread a 3/4”-10 with a double start? It looks like it to me. Has a date code of Jan 1944. Thanks!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Great find! Not sure where all these sub-$100 vises come from. In particular a Reed (pre-C#) combo. I would have paid at least $150 if that showed up near me and additional for shipping it if needed.

    Vise Info Thread

With regards to REED spindles and meatballs... Which jaw sizes and/or models shared meatball sizes? My first guess is that jaw size was the determining factor and each width regardless of model (Machinist/filers/coachmakers/combo) shared the same ones. Just a guess. If so, is the same true for...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Outlaw. Doesnt seem to be excessive wear. No setscrew collar. Just the thick washer between casting and shaft head. The previous owner said it has been like that as long as they can remember…20 years+. I bought a collar and I’m all good. Now gotta work on getting the jaw faces off.

Dynamic jaw and slide comparable to my 106R slide but static side, not quite.
