Wondering why the base of my Wilton vise has a slightly wider set of mounting flanges on one end? I assume that the wider of the mounts go towards the front to give a better distribution of force across the work bench. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated...

Before deciding, I would consult with a structural engineer or at least your local building department if this would even be allowed. It sounds like frame/stick construction (using trusses) and I do not think you have enough sheer in a 28' wall with 12' and 10' doors in the same wall. I am...
