    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Thanks, that is the one. They actually didn't have any in stock and kept trying to sell me a 2 ton at full price even after I told them I wasn't interested in spending more than $99 on it. It only took them about 5 times of me saying I would pay $99 for the 2 ton since they didn't have the 1...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Anybody have one for the 1 ton shop crane (aka engine hoist)? Having trouble finding one now that people have made a business selling free coupons for $5 on eBay.

    Cooling Workshop in Texas

A 9k mini split will do just fine for a 1 car garage. I have a 12k mini split in my 3 car garage, and even with most the walls just being drywall and R-3 sheathing and brick, and the garage doors being uninsulated it'll still bring it down to the low 80's and low humidity (usually around 81-83...

30'x75' 4" slab questions. To rebar or not???

That's a really big slab for no rebar. REALLY big. Have you also priced a post tensioned slab? It can make a lot of sense where your soil has lots of expansion and contraction.

Another Porcelain Install - 2nd Try

I'm definitely jealous of your garage space. Where abouts in Houston are you? I'm around the south Katy area. For that much space I'd definitely get someone to lay it. I was on the fence on my garage since doing it myself allowed me to move my junk around and do it in stages, but it's half the...

    Welding over Racedeck

Really? Never had a problem with that either. Maybe I need to put down my purse when I pick up my grinder. :)

    Mini split ductless

The paint booth might require some ventilation even with the filters, which will up your AC capacity significantly. But if you're just looking to hit high 70's or maybe 80 after running the units a few hours (assuming it's not 100 deg F in there at 2 PM in July and you fire it up) I'd say 6...

Low Bidder Hack AC Install, NEED ASSISTANCE!

Not crazy about the routing of the refrig. lines, but they are secured well enough for residential work. I wouldn't worry too much about the cut insulation as long as it's properly sealed up. The water heater install looks like a bit of a mess, but code requirements differ so much I won't even...

    poor pour finish

1/4"... ouch. That would be tough to take that much off and have it still be nice and level/flat. I would think taking some off the ridges then skimming it with concrete would probably be the best way to do it. But you're basically at square one of redoing the work the guy messed up on at that...

    Welding over Racedeck

Plasma cutting messes up everything in a big hurry, but I've never really marked up concrete or tile with MIG welding. The slag will usually cool down enough by the time it hits the floor that it can't burn it up.

So Can Your Floor Do This and Not Have Any Damage?

Interesting, didn't know you could use sanded on a 1/16" joint. Yea, unsanded just seems like it doesn't finish out as well.

So Can Your Floor Do This and Not Have Any Damage?

I'm guessing you went with unsanded grout? I've worked with both, and definitely prefer sanded.

Stepped into the porcelain deep end

Calm down man. You're basically repeating what I said about porcelain. Yes, it might be a different type of clay, but it's still a clay. It's fired at a higher temperature above the glass transition temperature of many of the minerals such that it does form glass structures inside, which is what...

So Can Your Floor Do This and Not Have Any Damage?

I'd recommend a 1/8" grout joint on the rectified as well. I almost went that route, but couldn't find a grey tile with a good wet mu and <$2/sq ft (my requirements). Those look really nice for the price though! My one advice to those tiling is to really spend lots of quality time with a 4-6'...

Stepped into the porcelain deep end

I never implied that you didn't know what you were talking about, but like you said, there are a lot of people who talk on the internet. I never said my method is the only way, but I've done enough thinset coverage testing myself to feel confident in my install job. And yea, the TCNA video is...
