Started to get the garage organized today for a project my dad and I are gonna work on. I'm excited as the new project is a Henry Deuce roadster. Gonna be fun.
And now th boat shoehorned between the car and the garage door. My measurements were actually correct!! :)
Lol....well no not really. It was more like 4.5 weeks...Honestly it didn't take that long. I was outa town for work for a week and another week or so got killed for more work. It probably took me about 4 days if I had worked solid on it.
Well I have finally finished my mezzanine. I have tried to over engineer it so I didn't have to worry about weight issues. I think its strong. Here are some pics:
I have added a top cap to the railing since I took the last picture. That finished the railing off and made it...
So I've make a lot of progress and have the mezzanine almost completely decked. Now I'm going to start on a railing....I'd like to have the railing removable, but still very sturdy...anyone have any suggestions on how to do that?
So I have made a little progress. I have purchased all of my materials. I decided to go with a LVL beam(5.25"x9.25"). It will be much stronger and I won't have to worry about what I put up there.
Very early in the build process, I have removed a strip of drywall to allow the ledger to lay...
So I went to my local lumber yard today and began to spec out the beam for my mezzanine. The guy at the lumber store asked me a bunch of questions:
Load: approximately 3000 lbs
Span of beam: 16'
Size of area: 10'x16'=160 sq/ft
He told me the load would be approximately 20 lbs per sq ft and...
I am going to be building benches in my garage soon so I am watching closely. My father built the benches in his garage approximately 40 years ago. He used steel for the top of the bench. It's about 1/8" or 3/16" thick. It's still there, never had a problem, wipes up fast and easy, doesn't...
I was told once to never use screws in the construction of framing, such as in joist hangars. Reason is because screws don't have the shear strength that a nail has. This true?
I'm planning to split the difference...sort of....there will be 6'4" above and 6'2" below the mezzanine. I will spend more time above then below it as I plan to store a car under it. I am 6'3" tall so I may have to duck or slump a little. But I don't want to go any lower cause the car I want...
I plan to store car parts up there. As well as have a large bench. I plan to put my tool box up there(I would think pretty heavy, 500 lbs?), my future air compressor(285 lbs) and a bunch of other "stuff". I don't anticipate storing engines or anything else that is super heavy like that. I...
