    Show us your welding projects

    Transmission Tear Down table

Most of the tables i have seen listed here are weak in my opinion. When i went through automotive school years ago we had a real nice table that the welding side of the school had built and i think it was perfect. It was rectangular like most of the ones pictured in this thread, but larger...

    Compressor after cooler

I think that sounds like a good plan. I bought an aftercooler that has air drawn over it by the compressor pulley so i could forgo the electric fan, but plenty have gone with the electric fan and wired it to run when the compressor is running.

    which welder to get

I have a hobart ironman 230 and i'm pretty happy i got it last year. It seems to weld anything from sheet metal/auto body to 1/2" plate. I'm not a professionally trained welder, but i have had time on a snap-on mm250 for a year or so. I think i like my hobart better than the mm250. The drive...

    Best sockets for the money

I picked up a set of these for 230 or so. So far so good. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HGKR6O/?tag=atomicindus08-20 No complaints so far. I had a decent chrome set for hand tools, but needed a full compliment of impact sockets at home, so i gave them a shot.

    Compressor aftercooler DIY

Is it a single stage? I hear the single stage compressors can get up to 300 degrees at the outlet. I designed mine with 350 degrees and 200 psi being the specs i needed to reach going into the cooler. I have a belt guard aftercooler and the temperature drops well below that on the output of the...

Best Bang For Buck 3/8 Penumatic Impact

I have this in 1/2". Same gun, and can fit in some spots a normal impact can't. It isn't earth-shaking like a IR titanium, but it has 450 ft. lbs. i think. I haven't found anything it has had a problem with yet and i've been pulling apart a 1984 bronco(rear end, motor, trans,etc.). I don't know...

Electrolysis Not Working - What Am I Doing Wrong?

I just got done removing the rust from a 1964 road wheel off a riviera. I used a plastic tub, washing soda, and a 10/50 amp napa charger. The plastic tub i used was the kind with the folding tops that most garage guys have a few of. I used a piece of 1/4" rebar as the sacrificial metal. It took...

Upgrading air compressor plumbing, any advice?

Yea that is pretty damn stout looking. How many hp and how big is the tank. I have a curtis 5hp with an 80 gallon tank and that looks significantly bigger than mine. Also, what plasma cutter are you running?

Upgrading air compressor plumbing, any advice?

Strouty, i noticed you said you were running a plasma cutter off of this. I am setting up my home shop to do exactly the same thing. I didn't see any air dryer or aftercooler, so i am guessing you are just getting the water out via water traps? As you stated earlier, you have no water in the...

    Compressor after cooler

Ok TNToy, couple of questions about your setup. 1 - I saw you used hydraulic hose for both sides of the cooler. Where did you get this and how much does it run? 2 - do you think the water trap after the aftercooler is necessary? I was planning on using my tank as a water trap, then having a...

plumbing an aftercooler in to an air compressor

I use to use aluminum zip ties on lighter equipment when i worked for at&t, but that was in a environment where the most we had running were small electric fans. I'm not sure they do that well when introduced into a vibrating environment. https://goo.gl/photos/vX4o7V5Y9djy6Jcv7 There are some...

plumbing an aftercooler in to an air compressor

So it sounds like my hard line plumbing may not be over. I plumbed my air line with black iron pipe then put a water separator and a good sized dryer on it. Guess i'll be making a plan on how to get things as simply plumbed as i can without turning it into a monstrosity of tube and joints.

plumbing an aftercooler in to an air compressor

I read through the first thread completely, and got a few ideas, but nothing addressed my question directly. I see some people using smaller aftercoolers with 1/2" lines and electric fans. Mine is a belt guard aftercooler with 3/4" fittings. I need a hose that goes a bit beyond 300 degrees to be...
