restated: Using jack stands under the car to "backup" the unit just in case. I guess putting them under the arms isn't the best option when they could just go next to the arms. Thanks for helping me think it through.

How did you figure how far in (from the garage door) to put the posts? I am guessing they don't have to be absolutely centered between the jack points? My cars include Porsche 914, VW GTI and late model Tundra
