Where do you guys find 15mm, 18mm, 20mm fasteners?

15mm is M10 as per ANSI B18.2.1 standards. They also allow 16mm for M10 to match ISO standards though. 18mm is M12 as per ISO 4014 standards. 20mm is companies liking to make things difficult.

    Soldering tips

My original iron, like many young kids who got into electronics was an orange 25W Weller. Only problem is the way they use the tiny screws to hold it together. Eventually due to the thermal cycles the threads melt. Their commercial irons don't have this issue. But bigger isn't always better...

28mm socket; is it just me?

    It's a non-standard size. You might as well be looking for a 19/32" wrench. ANSI, DIN and JIS specify the following bolt and nut hex sizes... 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 27, 32, 34, 36 Notice how 15mm isn't included but a **** load of metric bolts use it? Yah, blame...

    Soldering tips

Yes, about the solder station. Which honestly isn't needed. A regular pen soldering iron works fine with some practice 90% of the time. Dimitri

What type of wrenches do you use the most?

I use... 5mm, 6mm, 7mm and 8mm standard combination wrenches 8mm to 19mm standard ratcheting combination wrenches 20mm to 36mm standard combination wrenches Only "special" wrenches I have kept around are flare nut wrenches in bigger sizes (17mm to 32mm) for hydraulic fittings. Dimitri

Is Ford rejecting new oil formulations for use in powerstroke engines?

Cummings needs that as well. Plenty of idiots throwing crappy diesel in their Cummings come crying to dealers for warranty work. Trust me I have seen it as a FCA technician. The guys I know who own them have not much to complain about. Dimitri

Trades that require the least tools.

Honestly having worked or working in 3 trades I never needed half the tools people claimed. Machinist? There are some tools but other then a short 26" Kennedy you didn't need much (high value measuring tools add up though). Automotive? Lots of wasted tools for that one "special application"...

Who makes Snap Ons 1/2" cordless impact wrench?

The Mac Tools like the Facom power tools use the same Dewalt 20V batteries. Stanley is one big happy family and are not going to cross compete with their brands. Also, most Home Depot locations don't carry every random option that Milkwakee makes. So it's online ordering for a lot of their...

    mac tools gggrrrrr

It isn't that it isn't meant for daily use. It's that it's designed to apply torque to hard to reach hardware by using a less robust design (the head) to do it. It is a trade off that isn't the tools fault. It's like the difference between a 3 foot 1/2" breaker bar, and a proper 36 inch long...

    Metric drills

If it is a CBC, it's all just G code anyways, easy enough to manually write it up for most jobs. Otherwise it's MasterCam which also doesn't care. Manual machines it sometimes helps using the same standard of measurement for tooling and workpiece if only because it makes your offsets mentally...
