    Built-In Workbench or Not?

Free standing is my vote. When it comes to the quarterly deep-cleaning it's a lot easier to pull out the workbench with the rest of the stuff in the garage. It will also give you flexibility if you need to get at something from all four sides (pull it out to the middle of the garage). Pics of...

    My 45' X 30' pole barn

Tough question... I have a dodge ram quad cab 1500 and with it in one end it reaches to my heater (which is exactly halfway). I bet you could, but you wouldn't have a ton of room to move around. Wikipedia says the Escalade ESV is approx 18' 6". Depending on how long your other SUV is you...

    My 45' X 30' pole barn

I toenailed with screws. 2 on the bottom and 1 on the top of each 2x4. It actually worked pretty well. My dad did the same on his shop so I knew that it would work. Having the foam sprayed in afterwards really helped firm everything up, but even before the foam went in they were pretty stable.

    My 45' X 30' pole barn

I purchased the heater from these guys: http://www.infraredinfo.com/superiorradiant.html. I think it was just under $1200 shipped. That included a thermostat and hanging chains. I have yet to fire it up (currently trenching natural gas out to the building). It's 20' long, 60,000 BTU. I've had...

    Running 200' of gas line?

I got a spool of 1" polyethylene from a local plumber and did mine myself. They charged me $1/ft. I was able to tap into the meter at my house, so my situation was a little different than yours. I also used compression fittings, similar to Dipper I imagine. I haven't gotten the bill yet, but...

    work benches... from scratch

Here are pics of the workbench I just built. 2 - 8' X 3' workbenches. 1 of them has a shelf on the bottom. They are approx. 36 3/4" high.

Anyone out there have a pole barn garage

I didn't build our pole barn, the previous owner did, but we use it as our primary garage. I just got done insulating it with open cell foam. If I were building a garage, I would have chosen a different siding. The metal doesn't compliment our house very well. I love the size: 30X45X14...

    My 45' X 30' pole barn

A couple other things to note. I've kept it @ 45 degrees and that seems to be about right. It's been relatively mild the past couple weeks so we'll see how things go when it really gets cold. The other concern I had pre-heater was the positioning and evenness of the heat. I was worried that...

    My 45' X 30' pole barn

It took a little longer than I had planned, but there is now heat. Just in time for the Illinois winter. Here are some pics: 2 trenches. Left one for water & gas, right one for electric. This is where I tapped into the cold water supply in my house. My contribution to global warming...
