Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

Hi guys. Thanks again for the advice and inspiration. Can't believe I've been thinking about this project since 2012... Had some other more pressing projects to tend to and this keeps on being pushed back. But I'm glad to tell you that I've started some work on the garage finally. The front...

    Tiling - Straight Edge

Hi, Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find it using the search. I'm looking at picking up a 6 ft straight edge for tiling purposes. Where do you guys get your straight edges for tiling? Can't seem to find anything resembling what I'm seeing on this site's pics when...

    Porcelain Tile Question

Hi, I'm about to pull the trigger on this thru-body porcelain tile here at 1.68$ sqft for my garage. I look at the label and have a hard time understanding what all those numbers mean. I know I should look for PEI of 4-5 but I can't seem to relate this to what the label says. Can anyone...

Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

Hey slickgt1, Thanks for your contribution to this thread. The SS edge is a great idea. However, you mentioned about a rubber threshold but it doesn't seem to figure on the pics you posted...Is it just me or it is not on the pics?

Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

So 3-4" diameter hole for 2 feet deep? So I dig out some of the backfill too, right? The slab must be about 4-5" thick I start seeing the idea here. It's to make some 4" diameter by 2 feet long concrete pins reinforced by a rebar... Thanks EDIT: or 1 feet deep

Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

Just want to make sure I understand what you guys mean by pinning... So the idea of "pinning" is to drive some re-bars vertically down in the section of the moving slab so it goes directly into the backfill? (See attached)

Hey guys, Thanks for your input on my case. It is much appreciated that you take the time to write up your advices and I will consider them seriously. Jack and slickgt1, I've seen how great your garage floors are and that's what inspired me to plan this project. Frank, no suing will happen...

Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

Hey slickgt1, Thanks for answering my questions and for the numbering my problems/questions, it is a great idea. I have to give you some history about my slab and how the cracks occurred there. In the area where I bought my house, the contractors may have used a backfill that contain pyrite -...

Porcelain tile - what preparations I need?

Porcelain Tiling My Garage Hi everyone, After reading slickgt1 and Jack's garage and how great the tiles have been working out for them. I decided to start planning to lay some porcelain tiles in my own 16' x 20' garage of my house that I bought a year and a half ago. My concrete floor has...

Garage Door Opener - Need advice

Thanks for all the advices. Decided to go with the LiftMaster 8550. I found a place that sells it with the 1 piece belt rail for 389$ CAD. So I may just go there, get it and install it with a friend. Thanks

Garage Door Opener - Need advice

Re: Garage Door Opener - Need advices Thanks for the replies. To be honest I haven't measured the door's width. I'm not home now. It's not a double garage but a large single garage. So my guess is something around 12-13' wide. Probably insulated (Canada)...how do I check?
