Stair treads. Texture paint or peel and stick non-skid ?

I painted them with porch paint, then about 1" from edge masked a 3/4" stripe across tread and painted contrasted color with sand in it, and put acrylic floor finish over the stairs, it has held up for 25 years , and is easy to clean with soap and water, the stripe makes it easy to see the steps...

Best way to cut foil-backed Expanded polystyrene?

I cut some 2" with an old very sharp bread knife, I used WD40 to keep it from binding, It worked good for me, and very little mess.

Filing cabinet as a tool box. Value?

The lateral ones like the ones in the pic's need to be fastened to the wall if the top drawer is rolled out with heavy tools in it, the letter type aren't as bad. If you find older ones in good shape, you will be surprised how much weight they will hold and still roll in and out nicely .

    Mixing antifreeze-Tap or distilled water?

If the car is newer, use distilled , many of the parts are sensitive to PH and hardness, had to replace a hose connection , it cost 150$ plus labor. A couple of dollars for distilled would be easy to save in the long run.

My neighbor has a building spray foamed for 30 years no problems, mine was foamed about 6 years ago, and also no problems, I only have spray on on the ceiling , I found some sheets real cheap for the walls, I wish I had put heat in the floor. I had to insulate, or heating it would have been...

What do you think about the construction of this building?

I would think that it would depend on the siding , as it would be a big part of the strength of the structure.

Sump Pump Physics Question FREE TOOLS

Gotta have a check valve, For a shallow sump, your probably better of staying away from tether type pumps, they will have to pump a little more often, But get the check valve, you are probably pumping the same water over and over.

Why so many auto parts stores nowadays?

I like Rock auto. They have quality parts, and deliver quickly. For local stuff I go to Napa, or Farm& fleet. Some of chains sell really cheap junk. I've never liked doing a job twice.

    Removing old tires from rims

They stopped the yearly free tire disposal in Illinois, there was no notice, I'm sure tire dealers had something to do with it, so even if you get the tires off it will cost you $5 a piece to get rid of them, could cost as much as 12-14$ for removal . I have started seeing more tires dumped on...

Anyone Have a sink but no plumbing to their garage?

If you would read what they don't want in a septic system, you wonder what good they are. No laundry chemicals ,or softener discharge, although the vast majority do empty both of these in their septic. When I poured the concrete for my garage I buried a pvc pipe into hole filled with gravel for...

    Building a 24W x 32L garage

I have a garage the same size with one 10' door , it works okay but a do -over would be 2- 9' doors. in the winter it would be nice to put 2 vehicles inside. 2 10' doors would be cramped.

    Waste oil strainer or filter

I use a screen filter for an auto drip coffee maker and a funnel, they are a metal screen, ,it works better in the garage than it did in the coffee maker, left fine coffee grinds in the cup, went back to paper.
