you have not messed up and should proceed with topcoat.

my son got a new ac system and it started short cycling soon after install. The new system had a drain line float that was kicking it off due to a clog in the line. It would slowly drain and allow system to work, but would stop again as soon as water backed up in line. Thats all i got.

Look into Ben Moore's COMMAND , not an epoxy but a water based urethane

I used brush seals from jacor

i used RokRez 100% solid and it was easy to apply and holding up well. I have area of full flakes and area with the metallic. The metallic looks nicer and gets more compliments than flakes.

No need to strip, just use an oil based or shellac primer over what you have done and re topcoat.

Agree with others, rent an airless and use a fine finish tip, maybe a 311 0r 411.
