I’ve been using my Facom ratchet wrenches (the newer revision that has the retaining ring on ratcheting side) with my Astro stubby set and it’s been working much better than my older Gearwrenches. It’s not perfect but as long as you don’t bump the socket too hard it stays in place. That being...
Go to 3/8 ratchet is a tie between my standard and long handle non-flex SK LP90s. I like the small heads and the action feels solid without too much backdrag. The handle feels great in my opinion, I think they did a good job of making a comfortable handle for big hands without a bulky comfort...
For hardline tools, my best luck has been with Gray Canada and SK. I have some Koken Zeal sockets (3/8 deep and shallow and 1/2 shallow) and I found they were wearing out very fast. They seem to be great sockets, but not built to be abused in the rust belt. For specialty automotive tools I’ve...
Yeah I’m at a 7 bay all make/model shop that also does medium duty, and it’s a bit of a maze because it used to be two separate shops that were merged together. I think I’ll talk to the Snap On guy next time I see him, I want something really sturdy that’ll handle the uneven floor and tools for...
I’m thinking I’ll probably go for a full sized cart, I’m an automotive apprentice and I’d like to minimize the time I spend walking back and forth from my toolbox. Thanks for the suggestions for the Harbor Freight and Napa boxes, but I’m in Canada and by the time I get one of the those boxes up...
I have a small cart to complement my main toolbox, and I find I'm running out of space. Another option that I’m considering is a 5 drawer Maximum (same as the HF 5 drawer cart I believe), but I don’t want to spend the money on a small upgrade that’ll I’ll grow out of too quickly.
Been thinking about upgrading my little 2 drawer tool cart to something sturdier and with more storage, as I’m moving to a large shop without an assigned bay and will need to roll my tools around quite a bit more. I looked on the used market and couldn’t find any reasonably priced tool carts...
I have an identical bottom box, branded Mastercraft. Beach made them and they were sold as Beach, Gray and Mastercraft. Very sturdy box
edit: width is just over 27” I believe
Been really enjoying the anti slip ratchet wrenches, definitely not cheap but they’re my favourite wrenches I’ve used. I love the smaller box end compared to Gearwrench and the anti slip open end has been a life saver here in the rust belt. I also have some Proto and SK rebrands of the Facom...
Big fan of the Tekton 90 tooth here, use the extra long 3/8 and 1/2 very frequently when i need high torque. I also picked up one of the newer 90 tooth Titan ratchets in 1/2 while I was at Princess Auto today, I like the feel of the grip, and the price was right. I will agree with other posters...
My first real box as an apprentice, an old Canadian made Mastercraft box that I picked up used with some older tools as well. This thing is built like a tank, and has served me well and will hopefully continue to do so throughout the rest of my apprenticeship
I only like comfort grip for 1/2, I like the thickness of the grip because it allows me to really lean into it comfortably. I have no preference between comfort grip and a thick chrome grip, just nothing thin for 1/2.
Does anyone have any experience with the Gedore? I know the Germans make a damn strong 1/2 ratchet, but how big is the head on it and what is the backdrag like?
I think some people are missing the point a little bit. I do appreciate the response, and I actually do have a Gray ratchet (20 teeth and shorter though), I’m not looking for a mid priced ratchet, rather a mid length. Something like the Gedore or Koken flex that lie somewhere in the middle of a...
That Gedore looks good, I've heard good things about them for sure, and it looks like I can order it from German Amazon and ship to Canada. The price doesn't seem too bad as well, even after conversion.
