VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

@Outlawmws - spot on! @454ragtop thanks, this is all fairly new for me. Upon closer inspection of the rotation lock handle, it looks modified. You can see on the pictures the stopping head is a ratchet socket sandwiched between two nuts.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I stumbled upon a possible fix; the carriage lock from my Shopsmith 10er fits both threads and the stopper hole. All it needs is a tapered head all around, not just a wedge.

I also bought a Wilton Patternmaker Vise and took pictures of its disassembly - posting images of the rotation lock handle here. Is this a part that would have to be custom-made to replace or is it used on another vise?

Agreed: It's not what happens, it's what you do with it - I bought a little welding kit and am also considering JB Weld -- as well as creating a retaining ring that a new pin could thread through, clamping it all together. Time for me to read up!

Well, I removed the pin - but not without bonehead casualty. After the pin's recess soaking in an overnight thimble of WD-40, the next morning I began slowly urging the domed head of it with locking pliers until it began turning. Eventually the pin relented, but I pulled out only the upper part...

The Unofficial Vise Parts Swap Thread.

Well hello... eh... Vise Squad? I'm looking for both the knurled knob and sliding metal dog that goes on to a Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091. Please let me know if any pop up, or if there is an equal one on another model I can pursue. Thanks! Scott A thankful nod to Tedster and Unnet...

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

Fair enough. I found a few posted pictures from DKazi from this post that show split halves of a similar vise - perhaps this could help me discern other ways to take them apart.

RTM: I don't believe so; enclosed is an image of the other side of the vise from my above post. I indicate where the roll pin came out the other side (Blue arrow) and the solid block of metal the bars are placed into (red arrow). Perhaps my next move is knock out the pin holding in the handle...

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

One of the things I'd like to ask is about how to remove the guide rods. Currently they are stuck fast to the side, and it will not even fit into the SG bucket to get stripped of their paint. I removed the 3" roll pin from the indicated space (Blue arrow), so I believe the guide bars are...

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

Three days in the bucket of Simple Green and the paint pretty much melted off. After a minimum of wire brushing to get it down to the metal, it's looking alright.

Shiftless: Yes, I'm trying to remove the handle so I can restore this as thoroughly as possible. It also seems to be holding the main screw in, which I would also like to extract and clean. My attempt at ECU shots were to try and give the best possible view of screw threads or some other...

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

Shiftless: Thanks; it will be garagebound during night and in full sun throughout the day - I'll see the effects, say, two to three days from now. Any ideas regarding the removal of the (unknown) welded bolt/industrial machine screw/large pin holding in the handle?

On it! The hot LA sun is helping when I take it outside with a plane of glass over the top of the bucket to keep heat and moisture in.

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

Thanks for the advice, I punched out the pin and was able to separate the biggest parts of the jaw. Next I'd like to remove the handle, but am unsure how heavy-duty this operation will be as I cannot tell if it is a welded bolt, an industrial machine screw or a large pin holding it in. Below...

Cleanup of Wilton Universal Turret Vise 161091

Hello all, I'm back with another vise to clean up. This time it's a Wilton (Universal) Turret Vise -- AKA: Wilton Pattern Maker's Vice or Wilton Rotating wood vise. http://emmert-vise.blogspot.com/2010/09/wilton-universal-turret-paternmaker.html I'm researching how to cleanup/restore it, and...
