    Temporary Bracing for Trusses???

For my 30' wide shop, just one cat walk down the middle worked great. Made from left over 2x8 forms. These were average wood trusses

Buying lumbar - big box stores vs lumbar yards

This question is an easy answer based on my recent experiences. Home Depot framing lumber twists, bows and cups in record time. Pretty sure their mill accidentally received logs that were supposed to go to the water ski and boomarang factory. Their finger jointed trim that is supposed to be...

Shop Basics - The Over Looked Items

Reading glasses and mounted magnifiers have been mentioned But I would add 1 more level of help to old eyes. Dental Loupes I have a $33 pair from Amazon and it's amazing how often they get used. The wife even borrows them sometimes Add tweezers while your at it

The heck is going on here?

On the West coast we call that pumping. Usually caused by fill placed but not compacted properly. That provides space in the fill dirt for water to later occupy. Like others have said, it has to be pulled out and either compacted properly (can't compact saturated dirt) or just base rock/gravel it.

What do you wish you had done differently when you built your shop?

My concrete finishers talked me out of the recessed garage door floor version discussed above. They nicely sloped about 8" of edge downward and everything sheds water perfectly. My castors thank them. Years ago, I regretted pouring a garage door opening unlevel from right to left. Double check...

    Air vs battery

I have a great collection of cordless tools and haven't fired up the air compressor in 2-3 years. The final tool that retired the compressor was a cordless inflator. It's much slower than air, but you set the desired psi and walk away. I don't do body work, plasma cutting or have a tire machine.
