    Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

I got the 1X taken apart tonight, no issues. There is a lot of play in the spindle nut. From what I can tell the pin that holds it in place has never been removed. It came out pretty easy. From what I can tell it looks like they tap the pin in place and then bend it towards the spindle nut to...

    Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

The 1X has a 4 inch wide jaw and the 2X has a 4.5 inch wide jaw. I paid $70 for the pair.

    Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

Pictures are attached. The 1X appears to have had very little use. You can see on the 2X that someone put on a homemade collar. That that is the only piece is missing. From what I am finding, getting one is going to be very difficult. I plan on taking them both apart and cleaning them. The 1X...

    Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

I will take pictures tomorrow and post them. I just confirmed that the collar for the 1X is too small for the 2X. Bummer... I was hoping it would be as easy as have a new collar cast at Cattail. I'm sure that the collar from other Parker models would fit but, I have no idea what ones would work.

    Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

I picked up 2 nice parker vises today. A 1X and a 2X. Both are in really nice shape. The only problem I have is that the 2X is missing the garter collar. From what I can tell the collar is a little different between the 1X and 2X. Both vises are fixed base. A couple of questions: 1. Does...

    Athol 644 1\2 Vise

I ended up grinding off the brazing and pulling the pivot jaw off. The very bottom of jaw stem is broken but still goes into the body of the vise about 1 1\4 inches. I think I can clean it up and make it work. Pictures are below. I have never seen a swivel base like this one. it has an...

    Athol 644 1\2 Vise

Thanks for all the advice. Lets say I decide to still go ahead and try to get the rear jaw apart. What is the best approach? Carefully grind? Bring it to someone who has a torch hot enough to melt the brazing but not damage the vise? (Not even sure if that is possible?)Any other ideas?

    Athol 644 1\2 Vise

I'm curious why you would not try to bring it back original? I could go either way. The worse case is if I get it apart and find it is broken internally, I can have it brazed again.

    Athol 644 1\2 Vise

I picked up a Athol 644 1\2 bench vise this morning. Apparently I didn't look close enough at it before I purchased it and to be honest I don't know very much about Athol Vise's. it appears to be the type where the rear static jaw pivots. But, at some point that jaw was brazed in place. it...
