Is this a good mini-split for me?

Thanks for the responses guys. To answer a couple questions, by "open ceiling", I just mean there is no internal, dropped ceiling. It's open to the roof trusses. So there is a lot of area up there that has to get heated too. There are two single garage doors (8x8 each, I think), and they are...

Is this a good mini-split for me?

Hi All, I live in the Colorado Rockies at 8400' of elevation. I have a detached garage that is 24' x 40' and has an open ceiling. The walls are 10' tall with a center ceiling height of 16'. It is insulated with R19 insulation in the walls and R31 in the ceiling. The walls are finished in...

I did get an quote on the foundation, and it's reasonable.

I don't know if it's moving, haven't owned it long enough to tell. I guess if I choose to fix the roof, I should do the foundation first. If I choose not to fix the roof, I shouldn't mess with the foundation. Frankly, a lot of making that decision will be who I can find to fix the roof and...

Actually, leaving it alone is still one of the things I'm still considering. But the projects that I'm storing are classic cars. Two of them are shells on body carts, and none of them are worth big money, but they're still cars. If I was just storing random junk in there I definitely would...

I think this may very well be the case. It was built in '63. Back then I'm not even sure the town it's in was a town yet. So probably none or lax building codes. I picture some good ole boys throwing it up over a weekend or two while drinking lots of beers to "cool off".

It's not a mantra for me. There are plenty of things with my primary home that, when I do them, I do them right. I have paid top dollar on occasion to get the best work. The shop here at my main home is a prime example. I did not scrimp on it and I got a high-quality build. To the point...

Thanks Charlie, that is what I'm looking to do. I don't care about the visual aspect, I just want to do whatever I need to make it sound. That entryway is beautiful. Very nice work.

I have some updates. First, I checked the plumb on the walls at their worst point. They are both 4.5" out (going the same direction). The foundation is not level either. It's got a pretty severe drop. I decided to have an engineer look at it. This is their report: The structure was...

I'm up on the north side of Lake Lewisville. Worked out at DFW airport for several years though, sort of near your neck of the woods. :)

I got over there today and has a little deeper look. Didn't get a chance to check the plumb on the walls, going to try to do that tomorrow. But I did pull back the insulation and looked at how the rafters are attached and the ridge beam. The rafters are 2x4's. They are notched to fit the top...

No, the house is good. The garage has no shingles. A metal roof has been put on at some point. Looks like I'm not going to be able to get over there till this weekend. I'll try to do some more investigation then.

No, the walls are not plumb. At the slab level, they are straight. But at the top plate/rafter connection, they bow in. I was afraid the pics might not show it well. I made a drawing to show the deformity. Hopefully it helps.
