The VISES of Garage Journal

I just got this Palmgren 000. I don't know much about them, but I wanted something for my "new" Craftsman Drill Press. Quality seems very good. Palmgen 000 Vise - 1 by e.estern, on Flickr[/IMG]

Show us Your Vintage Bench Grinders!!!!

Here's mine. Picked it up along with a nice early Wilton vise that I posted about in "The Vises Of Garage Journal" It's a Van Dorn--if anyone has information about them please fill me in. The motor is so smooth and quiet and it must have a huge flywheel or something similar inside, as it will...

    Basement dirt floor question

I had a similar situation in my house when I moved in. One portion of the basement, a separate room really, had a dirt floor. The rest of the basement was poured concrete. House was built in 1947. I believe the room was used as a root cellar for storing food and hanging deer, etc. At any...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Yeah, recently I looked up the price of a new Wilton, just for laughs, and wow, they are expensive. I bought it because I needed a vise and it looked like a good one. Over the years I've come to appreciate just how good it really is.

Craftsman Drill Press: Early '70s vs Late '70s

I was thinking abut that, but I feel like I could wait months for one. What will probably happen is one will turn up as soon as I commit the drill above. On the other hand... The '70s drills have a slower speed (I think- 380 rpm) without mods and a built in light.

Craftsman Drill Press: Early '70s vs Late '70s

I checked out the newer machine today. It turns out it was made in 1985. It literally looks as though it has never been used--still has plastic film over name plate and pulley chart and some sort of anti rust coating on base and table. It runs quietly and very true. But... compared to the...

Craftsman Drill Press: Early '70s vs Late '70s

Is there a way to tell if the motor has ball bearings vs sleeved and if it has cap start?

Will try and figure out how to upload photos later today. No elevation system on either one.

Craftsman Drill Press: Early '70s vs Late '70s

Hi all, I've been reading threads here for awhile and learned a lot. This is my first post. I've been looking for a DP for woodworking and light metalwork. I'm not looking for a project, but a working, general purpose (made in USA) tool that will not need replacing or upgrading anytime soon...
