Looking to do something similar with my garage and lots of good info in this thread. What every came of the framing issue? Did the contractor correct the issues?

On mine, I didn't glue the caps on so I can easily pull them off to clean. However, they're on well enough that they won't work lose or fall off. As for the oozing caulk guns, I found at HD or Lowes these yellow plastic caps that fit over the tips of the caulk. Skeptical at first but they...

Bought a small section of 4" and 1.5" and a couple caps. Scrounged up some hardware and made 2 (gave second to my Dad). Was going to paint it but decided it was fine as is.
