That is an awesome shop! You will fill it up quickly for sure.
So did we ever decide on the faced batts being a potential for condensation since you already have a barrier on the outside of the garage?
I am thinking of doing the same thing in a very hot and humid environment.
Whoa....lots of good ideas here.
As an edit, my area would require a 120 mph wind load.
So if I did the pole barn thing, would I just get permits as I go....(one for electrical, concrete, etc)
I would hate to put up and agricultural open pole barn then close it in later, only to have it...
Thanks again for the thoughts.
Where I will be building, the wind load will have to be engineered into my plans. I have made a few steps who to contact. I will have to draw up my own plans with an engineer because it is near impossible to find pre-engineered plans for a high wind load. I...
Hmm...these are good thoughts. I also thought of framing between the posts redundant. Well, perhaps I'll go with my original plan to have the concrete slab with 2 foot stem walls, then go from there with the stick built....
thanks for the input

Still looking at options for a garage in Central Florida. I am debating with stick built or pole barn. I know this is quite the argument, but…
I won’t have the money to do it all at once, so it will be done in steps.
One option I have looked at is a pole barn.
I could have it built and open...
Thanks KBS....
I was thinking more for looks from the outside, but it would serve as "skylight", so to speak (since I will not have an upper floor). I was thinking a 3/12 pitch, but that's pretty shallow.
I just didn't know if there was a "rule of thumb" or something I was missing...
thanks...
Planned shop is 32 x 32, and I want to design functional dormers for the roof that will bring light into the work area.
Is there a rule of thumb or something as to what pitch the existing roof should be?
thanks

I am hoping to make 2014 the year I build my shop.
We are moving to North Central Florida next summer (I know, the hottest time of the year) and I’ll need a home for my 2 cars, plus a place to play around in.
I am going to be paying for this as I go, so I have thought I would just have the...
Thanks for the replies, guys...This is really helpful.
I will need some kind of engineer to sign off on whatever I am doing, which is why I thought blue prints would be easier. I would love to draw my own, though.
I am going to break ground next fall, and the building will be in Florida.
It...
How many of you just bought existing plans offline?
It seems to me this would be the easiest way to do it, but I may be wrong.
Is it more expensive to draw up your own plans and have someone draw blueprints?
Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys, it does help since I am just learning this stuff. The one plan I am looking at shows the foundation option as "footing and foundation wall".
From what I see, this will be flat on the surface, offering nothing like a stem wall. Is it difficult to add a stem wall to...
I have a very basic question and my google searches have turned up no answers.
I found garage blueprints online, however I am looking for something with a "rat wall" perimeter made of concrete block. The garage is to be built in Florida, so my purpose for a raised perimeter wall made of...
