I also modified a V18 hatchet and it still works great 2 years later. I have ran across a couple tools that were V18/V28. So my guess is that they're probably the same motors, switches, etc. But I have bothered to cross check parts.

No, the blocks only change the alignment of the tabs you break off. The block is the black piece in the center of the base. The battery I was using didn't slide off before I notched the base. Even one notch will hold the battery on, but I wanted to make it as secure as possible.

This is the block I will be using. It is from the 28v drill. It is located in the base of the handle where the battery attaches. I don't remember exactly but on my hatchet I think it was toward the side and on the 28v stuff it was center. I didn't have any problems with the battery holding on...

As far as the group purchase I am in for one jigsaw and one die grinder. I would have to wait until summer on the batteries but would want 4+ depending on price we could get. I am on a budget as I can't build fences in the snow.

I have a few dual chemistry chargers that will charge the V18 Li-Ion batteries. But I want one battery platform.
