I'm starting to think that the big clue here is the 'hole' size.....of 1 & a sixteenth inches. I'm no expert on these olde goodies but that size just seems to be.....a bit different than what I would have expected. One inch, yes, one and an an eighth inches, yes....but this...

Handle doesn't seem like it's been cut down....very end of it looks o/g....with an 1/8" deep hole in the center, about 3/32" round.
