What did you do "IN" your garage today?

So far all I've done today is forget to take the key out of my drill press chuck.....still haven't found it!

What brand power tools do the pros use in your area?

About 50/50 between Dewalt and Milwaukee around the mines.

Snap on will “reclaim” my tool box?!??

I've never seen a stamped S/N on either of mine - if it's there, it's well hidden.

Your thoughts on using just 1/4" and 1/2" drive tools Abandon 3/8" drive?

Re: Your thoughts on using just 1/4" and 1/2" drive tools Abandon 3/8" drive? I hardly ever use 3/8 at work, it's 1/2" to 1" drive. At home and on the cars, it's more 3/8" than anything.

    LARGE tap and die source?

For a quick and dirty "repair", cross drill it, load the threads with Loctite 660 and put a cotter pin to hold the nut in place.

    Ratcheting bit driver handles

I use a ratcheting tap handle with torx bits quite a bit, because everyone keeps stealing my screwdriver handles. If you want the best of the best in ratcheting bit drivers, it's Snapon by a mile. If you don't like the idea of paying $60 plus for a screwdriver, for about half the price you can...

    Tools on car shows

Roadkill Garage uses a lot of Harbor Freight stuff.

    shop apron,who still uses one,and what type/brand?

I've got a couple of Mechanix Wear aprons that I use when fooling with the cars. When I was still working in the shop, I had a heavy canvas one from Texas Canvas Wares. Now that I'm usually driving a desk, I have a Red Kap shop coat for when I get too close to actual work.

    Work mechanic gloves

To me the fit is about the same - but a little better design on the fingertips.

    Work mechanic gloves

Little pricier than the synthetic mechanics gloves, but I'm a big fan of the Tillman Truefit 1470's.

Need to make a vise handle.

I made the one on my old service truck out of a 3/4-10 x 11" bolt, a nut and some red Loctite. Ghetto, but effective.

    Old Oxygen Tank

I had a couple of old CO2 tanks that were my granddads and WAY out of hydro. Took to Airgas to see if they wanted, and they just exchanged them out for refilled. 60 bucks and I'm good on MIG gas for a pretty long while.

Slug wrenches - an alternative to buying a full set?

I own a whole whopping two slug wrenches - 1 5/8 and 2 1/4. Used them strictly for install/alignment on a couple of REALLY poorly designed motors. I was always more partial to a torque multiplier or something controlled as mentioned above. Had a "hammer mechanic" crack the casing on a really...

    Metal Lathe

I've got a little Atlas/Craftsman 6x18 that I make a lot of small/just for fun stuff on. The small machines can do a lot, but you have to recognize their limits. For straight up hobby work, a Smithy or Grizzly 3 in 1 can do just about anything you ask of it.

Want to get a couple new ratchets

I've got a 3/8 drive Mac "Expert" that has been my go to for a couple of years now. SK, Proto, Blackhawk, Performance Tool are all good choices. The newer Harbor Freight are good, but I won't recommend them because I don't like the handles. It's really subjective - find what you like and go...
