Before you buy a Chinese generator:

Also worth mentioning that many laptop and PC power supplies can run just fine from 90~260VAC. Under/over voltage isn't a serious issue with many modern switch mode power supplies.

    LED Lighting for your Garage

The T8 LED bulbs we sell require the fixture to be opened and the balast bypassed. They run from 110VAC directly. Even at $25/bulb, it's hard to justify the cost when compared to fluorescents. I've heard of T-8 bulbs that can run with a ballast, but I have to think you lose a lot in the way of...

    Vacuum your shop floor?

I don't sweep either, too much dust. It takes me about 15 minutes to do my 2-car garage with the shop-vac and standard hose attachment. I like the vacuum because I can get underneath and behind things I would never be able to access with a broom. Helps me keep the creepy-crawlies at bay.

    3D printers

Some people have modified them to print with different materials. Mine uses ABS plastic to print, most parts are pretty tough, or about as tough as any other plastic part is in my experience so far.. One of the neatest things I have seen lately is using the plastic printed parts as patterns...

    Rubbermaid Big Max Shed Install

I have one of these sheds - Great shed, but a level and solid base is very important - The walls will bow out and the doors won't shut properly if the base is skewed. I put mine on treated plywood base that is screwed to a framework of 4x4 posts laid on their sides, spanned across 3 posts...

    3D printers

I've been fiddling with my reprap for months now, still have not been able to get a good print out of it. It's an endless series of adjustments and then trial and error. I'm not giving up on it, but I've found it to be a very frustrating process.

    Garage Door Opener Button Upgrade

The large button came from Sparkfun online. I bought two smaller chome light up buttons and the project box from Vetco Electronics.

    Garage Door Opener Button Upgrade

Good idea, but wouldn't that ruin the fun that every home owner goes through when they move in to a new place? I still have light switches that don't appear to do anything :eyecrazy:

    Garage Door Opener Button Upgrade

I got tired of looking at my ugly 1990's faux-wood grain Genie Series II garage door opener control hanging on the wall, so I decided to "repackage" it into something that looks like it could belong in a sci-fi movie. I was worried there was going to be IC's or a microcontroller in the control...

    Sold another lamp!

That looks great. How did you attach the lamp socket? I'm building a lamp out of an old fire extinguisher and some gas pipe - Just gathering ideas on how to mount the lamp base/sockets.

    Knipex Mini Bolt Cutter

Mine arrived today in perfect condition, brand new without any shelf wear. The envelope was padded and reinforced with packing tape.

    Any cable TV installers here?

Don't buy the least expensive splitter - The ones from Home Depot are ok, the $1.99 special from the corner drug store I would pass on. I've been able to solve a lot of problems for friends/family/coworkers by replacing an old or inexpensive splitter with one of higher quality. I work for a...

I need a tone generator and probe

The higher priced ones are typically better than the $30 units - I've used lots of brands/models. When you use a cheap one and all you hear are songs from the radio or 60Hz hum from AC wiring. The good units don't pick up as much of this interference. I agree with the comments above - find...

    insulation & my weird foundation

Your suggestion sounds reasonable, but I would go a step further and install galvanized flashing on top of the board. I've never tried adhesive on concrete blocks before, but I don't see why it would not work. You may also consider cutting a bevel or tapering the board so water will run off...
