    My Devoe epoxy floor project

Devoe Coatings was a division of ICI paints, http://www.international-pc.com/north-america/devoe/devoe-coatings.aspx. Check the website and see if there is a dealer near you. The flakes came from Colorchips.com. Any high solids epoxy with a UV-resistant urethane clearcoat will work, prep is...

Lighting beneath my new shop lift

Just installed a new 4-post lift in my #3 bay, which is 20x10. It has a single wimpy 36" 4-bulb, ceiling-mounted fluorescent fixture. I have 10' ceilings and will need all that headroom for lift clearance so I expect I'll need to install some new lights off to the sides out of the way. I am...

    My epoxy lessons learned

Your floor looks great. I just finished mine with 224/379, light beige with earthtone flakes. Three of my neighbors have stopped in to ask if I would do theirs (ain't happening.) My wife is having a baby shower Saturday and asked if she could just open the door to the garage and have the food...

    Flakes are applied, now what??

Well, for closure, I did NOT get so radical as to scrape and sand. But for those who don't know, you do in fact need to remove all the loose flakes and those that can be knocked loose before applying your topcoat. I used a very, very stiff 10" wide nylon brush head from Lowes screwed onto my 5'...

My Garage with finished Devoe Floor

Yep, cabinet-grade finished birch plywood, primer sealed and painted with my airless with an oil based paint. They are like steel now. Much cheaper than any other option I looked at and they are custom sized and built.

My Garage with finished Devoe Floor

Yes I did. And having a light breeze has helped, both with fumes and drying.

My Garage with finished Devoe Floor

This is a continuation of this thread. I just finished laying the epoxy in the 2-bay side of the garage. I used Devoe's Pre-prime 167, Devran 224HS epoxy, desert sand flakes from Original Color Chip, followed up by Devran 379UVA clearcoat. Because I have so much junk, I did the 2-car bay...

    Flakes are applied, now what??

I just finished applying the Devoe Devran 224HS epoxy and desert sand flakes. I couldn't be happier with the results. Once it dries, assume I blow or sweep the excess flakes off prior to clearcoating? Do I want to force any partially stuck flakes loose or let the clearcoat trap them in? Thanks.

    Prep etch/grind/powerwash question

Need some opinions: Unable to find a commercial grinder I rented a 7" hand grinder and spent all weekend on my hand and knees. I have pressure washed it to remove the dust and it clean enough that you could eat on it. And based upon close inpection, it appears to be very, very open and porous...

    Newbie garage pics, advice appreciated

UPDATE>> I just finished having to hand grind the floor because I couldn't find a grinder for rent anywhere in the tiny town of Houston, TX with the right stones/cutters. :( I rented a large hand grinder from Lowe's and forked over $100 for a Dewalt 7" XP Diamond cutter. I can't imagine doing...

Floor prep, clean and acid etch questions

Using 50/50 from 30% muriatic pool acid I did gets lots of yellow fizz, and after 20 minutes I hit it with baking soda to neutralize and then hosed it off. What is left is a nice tan concrete with an 80-100 grit feel. The rest of the floor is still white and chalky but the area where I tested...

Floor prep, clean and acid etch questions

I have worked my &^$$ off trying to get all the little oil spots up from the prior owner's leaky car. The oil is all gone, but there are a number of silver dollar-sized light tan spots where the oil once soaked in. And I still have a few tire marks that simply will not come up either. I have...

    My Devoe epoxy floor project

That is consistent with what I was told as well, until I spoke with Ryan at ColorChips yesterday. He said that the 224 is so thick that you might find one coat sufficient. They sell of lot of Devoe 224HS and I doubt they would try and sell me "less" if they could sell me "more." And I am sure a...

    My Devoe epoxy floor project

I have been waiting on the weather here in Houston to cool down below 100 degrees or at least enough so I wouldn't sweat on my prepped floor before doing this. I have a 4 year old bare floor that is in great shape but has some spots and tire marks that didn't come up with my pressure washer. I...

    Devoe coatings 521 or 224HS

I am planning on using 224/379 as well. The way I see it, if you intend to use flakes, you really need to lay the color base first, then the flakes, and then the clear topcoat. If you use 521 and use flakes, then you still have to put down a clear top coat. But if you aren't going to use flakes...
