    Need Shop Vac Attachments!

Hi guys, I bought an older shop vac off of marketplace the other day, it doesn't have any attachments -- just a bare hose. It's a 5.0 16 gal model 8050, the hose measures ~2" ID and ~2 1/4", maybe 2 3/8" OD depending how you hold it. I don't know the standard sizes these came in, but from what...

    SAFE Chemical Storage?

Hi all, I'm curious to know the right way to store chemicals, oil, brake cleaner, WD40, and other 'garage fluids', particularly in a hot, non-ventilated environment. In the near future I will have a non-insulated storage unit where this stuff will most likely be stored with my tools and other...

    Drill bits grabbing on exit

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I never thought of finishing from the other side, I'll have to try that

    Drill bits grabbing on exit

I didn't know 3/16" pilot was large for a 5/8" bit. Smallest I could've gone was 1/8". As for the sharpening job, yes it could have been my fault there but as I said it also happened with a factory ground bit.

    Drill bits grabbing on exit

Hey guys, at work a while back I was hand drilling 5/8" holes in some 3/16" angle iron. If I remember, I started with a 3/16" pilot and went up to 5/8". At the end of each hole the bit would grab and throw the drill around. I was trying to feed as hard as I could given that I was pushing...

    Headlamp for hard hat?

Hey guys, I need to find a headlamp that will fit on a hard hat and clip on in some way so it won't slip off. I've got a Pyramex Ridgeline hat, not a full brim. I'll add a picture of it. I know this is the Garage Journal but I assume there's plenty of you who use hard hats. Curious to see what...

Looking for a good mechanic's creeper

Hey guys, a while back I bought this cheesy little creeper off a guy. It's a Wolf brand, 30 something inches long, and separates in the middle for easy storage. Well that's all fine and dandy until it actually sees some use and begins to sag. It scrapes the ground frequently, and on rough...

    Squares/magnets for welding?

I should rephrase, "They never seem to be square in the first place, and therefore don't help all that much to square up your work."

    Squares/magnets for welding?

I'm going to be getting a welder for myself soon, and need a bit of advice regarding squares and magnets when trying to accomplish 90 degree joints. I'm no expert welder and have had no real training, but I would call myself proficient with a MIG welder. I've used the red magnets we all know...

Set of different size center punches?

Ok guys, first of all thanks for all the replies. I definitely learned a few things about drilling and punching today, lol. I've settled on the Starrett S816PC, it's got a few ***** punches and two center punches. I think that will have me covered pretty well. It's only $38 on Amazon, pretty...

Set of different size center punches?

It's a millwright apprenticeship. I'm assuming I would only be using center punches for hand drilling, can you really drill 1/2" through steel with no pilot with a hand drill?

Set of different size center punches?

So I've been gathering tools for an upcoming apprenticeship, and on the list is a "Set of center punches". Now this may be a stupid question, but could someone explain why one would need varying sizes of center punches? My understanding is that you use a center punch, drill your pilot, and then...

    Bandsaw bearings/speed reduction?

That speed reducer looks like it could work, do you cut steel with yours? I have thought about a jackshaft, I'll have to draw something up and see if I could make it work. It'd have to be almost 15" in diameter, which wouldn't fit due to the saw table. A treadmill is an awesome idea, that...

    Bandsaw bearings/speed reduction?

I did see that one, unfortunately the bore on that is 0.250" where mine is 0.275"

    Bandsaw bearings/speed reduction?

Hey guys, I just bought a really nice Craftsman 10" bandsaw, model 103.0101. Supposedly made in the 40's, I wouldn't doubt it. Anyways, it needs some new 'blade stop' thrust bearings, the ones that contact the back of the blade to keep it in place. I'll have pictures below, but the bearing is a...
