Shop Build,....my retirement gift to myself.

Getting ready to start my retirement garage hopefully before the end of the year if the $ come together as planned. Yours is about the same size I have planned so I'll be following along. Interesting comparison, I retired after 23 years with Dupont, where I was an electrician as well as an...

    Triumph Spitfire on car dolly

Another issue that I don't think has been covered. Most states require cars on tow dollies to be licensed and insured. If two wheels are on the ground then it is considered a whole motor vehicle.

    not bad for free!

They are paper, probably as fragile as eggshells by now.

    asphault blacktop vs concrete driveway

A friend of mine just had a new driveway poured in concrete. He was told that with the spike in oil prices the materials were cheaper to the point of offsetting the labor cost. It was less money. Plus he doesn't have to re-seal it every year.

    Fish Eye Problems

While working in my father-in-laws body shop back in the 70's, he attributed fisheyes to contamination on the car body. Usually insufficient wax and grease removal. He also wet down the floor but that was to contain dust.

What should we coat this trailer floor with?

I had the floor of my shop trailer done in a non-skid paint because I would be in and out of it in all kinds of weather while doing installs. BIG mistake. While it is non-skid, and has held up great for the past 10 years, it is a bear to clean. all you can do is wait for everything to dry out...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? At least the Sheriff's Dept. found him before he wandered into your garage. Either a total nutcase or another bath-salt addict.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Re: what did you do in your garage today? Every day I just dream about what I could have done in my garage because I don't have one yet. If I can get mom's house sold I'll recoup enough of my investment to finally build one, until then it's just a wishful thought process.

Need great dusk or night garage shot for CD

'73 Mustang, love 'em. When I was in Uncle Sams Air Warriors a buddy of mine had a twin to yours and I had a nearly identical '72 HO Q-code car.

    electric trailer tongue jacks

I installed an attwood on my shop trailer several years ago and it is great. Usually the wifeyperson guides me back to hook up and then lowers the ball before I get out. It made her life a lot easier too. We were moving this trailer 3-4 times a week going to different jobs and setting up and it...

    Stupid winch question?

Don't do that. The winch is grounded to the trailer and to your vehicle. Switching those leads is the same as reversing your battery leads, not good. Run the cable the way the winch manuifacturer built it. If it is too close to the deck, instead of a roller fairlead take a piece of 3" or larger...

Winching inop cars into a garage

Have you considered going outside the garage and digging a hole about 3ft square/deep and reinforcing it with rebar welded together and then a pulling eye welded into that. Then fill it with concrete. Attach an eye to the inside of the garage either welded, chained, or cabled to the deadman...

Should I buy this car hauler?

I had an 18 ft flat deck with all four brakes and 12k gvw for 2200 new about ten years ago. It was pretty good for most of the hauling I did, I ended up wishing it was at least 20 ft. My next one will be.
