These boxes are in pretty good shape for their age. I just contacted Accuride and have new detents/snubbers coming for all the ball bearing sliders (they have a lifetime warranty on all their stuff). All drawers and casters operate as they should.
For some reason I recently bought two...
Thanks to bobcatdan for getting me pointed in the right direction, I have come to the conclusion that a KRL-793 is the top box companion to this KRL-763 that I may be bringing home. I can't seem to find any info on either box online, but I will keep an eye out for a KRL-793 on CL, eBay, etc...
I would definitely prefer a newer box which is closer to 30" deep, but I'm coming from a Craftsman which is 18" deep so this would feel like quite an upgrade.
As for the top box, I'm going to stick with a full length top box when the time comes. I do like to have room to set things down, but I...
I'm looking at possibly picking up a KRL-763 locally, I believe it is from 1996. It looks good for its age and I don't really want to pay the going price for anything newer.
My only real hangup is that I'd like to have a matching top chest at some point, but I can't find information on one...
So I've happened across a late 70s LeRoi Dresser 400 series compressor with very similar amp draw to my IR. It's a single phase 5hp motor so about 27A but the documentation I found on this model (attached) claims 23CFM (disp) and 17.5 CFM (cap), not sure what the difference is there. Even if...
I'd guess somewhere in the 500 hour range on the compressor. It's only a couple years old and I don't use it all day long, or necessarily every day. It's always been this way so I don't think it needs rebuilt, it's just underpowered for my needs. I've considered trying to speed up the pump...
The need for higher CFM is constant, so I don't want to go with a gas unit. It was suggested earlier I try picking up a better pump and turning it slower with my 5hp motor to potentially increase the CFM over what I had initially. Think that'd have to be done by trial and error...
This 7.5 HP Polar Air (Eaton) is one of the setups I was considering, but it has a 32Amp draw with 64A inrush. All other manufacturer specs I saw for 7.5 HP were similar numbers, at least for those that bothered to list them.
I think a 7.5 HP motor just ain't gonna work on my little 30A...
How would you control the inrush on a single phase motor?
The reason I was trying to avoid a VFD is I just don't like the idea of having to have the thing on all the time for a piece of equipment that kicks on and off every once in a while. Not to mention the added expense of equipment and...
Dr Clyde and Rich, I have definitely been keeping an eye out for a rotary screw compressor that I can power with my 220V 30A circuit, I just don't think that's enough juice. I'd spend $2-3k on one no problem if I could power it.
For example, this IR 7.5HP 80gal 230V single phase compressor...
They don't have the smaller nozzles in carbide, just steel and ceramic. A small nozzle would keep me from using as much air, but it also restricted my blasting efficiency too much for my liking. Now that I dialed my air back to about 80psi at the cabinet, I notice the air compressor is having...
I never really considered putting a different pump on my tank. Might be worth looking into, but hard to know if a larger pump being turned by my smaller motor is going to be worth the effort. If I came across a cheap enough R15/R20 pump I'd probably give it a shot, but man they look pricey if...
Thanks, guys. I dialed the pressure down to 90 psi last night and surprisingly (to me anyway) I didn't really lose any blasting capability. And obviously it was easier for my whimpy IR to keep up.
For as much blasting as I do, I sure would like the option of putting a larger nozzle on there...
Appreciate all the input, fellas.
I already have a monster generator running my large powder coating oven and running a compressor off of a generator as well is not a path I'm willing to go down. It must be electrically powered.
As for just taking a break every few minutes to let the cabinet...
