Cordless Drills? Are They Worth It?

I had 12V dewalts for years when i was doing a ton of race car fab work and the batteries seemed to last alot longer when i was charging them maybe each 2 to 3 times a day. Have a 18V dewalt hammer drill now and don't use it as much but when in the shop working in the winter or out on a job...

    Sidekick Miller welder

While back a buddy of mine asked if i was interested in a old welder he had. It's a Miller Sidekick 115V wire feed. It needs somthing done to it, he coulndn't remember for sure but the sales shop we deal with had told him about $100. I have a big wire feed at our company shop, as well as a big...

Who uses 'mechanics gloves' and why?

I don't wear mech gloves for everything I do, but do like having a pair for some task. I work in the rock biz and around the crushers and machines I usually have on good leather gloves but when in the shop I either have a pair of "blue" gloves on or my mech gloves. Alot of times though i do...

    New Shop Build

Using limestone, are you talking 3/4inch road gravel, fines or chips, or clean stone? Like any fill material best way to compact is to bring it up in nice lifts and if its dry add some water too it. Depending on what you have for equipment to work with a roller is best, but even a decent sized...

dumbest idea on used steel building

You are going to need to put some gravel down anyways for a base for those slabs and even if you are able to get them all lined up etc you will still get some settleing over the years, making for some uneven slabs. Just put a good base down(maybe even filter fabric under) and then top dress it...

Hats off to Mechanix Wear and anti Sieze.

thanks, few fingers are sore yet but just sore, they will heal. Yes its one of them things bout taking your time and doing things right and for the long run, would have never thought that is WHY we would need to remove a track pad but dam glad it worked. Scott's comment to me was anyone else...

Hats off to Mechanix Wear and anti Sieze.

Yesterday bout 3 pm I was at work in the shop putting tracks back on to my dozer. Had one rolled over the top rollers and was getting off to get a bar to pull the slack out so I could get the track jack attached and pull them together. Just as I steped off the machine the track buckled between...

frost wall in the frozen north Yay/Nay?

I've dug for buildings plenty and have seen em go both ways. Some guys want the frost walls, even if putting in pex tubbing for in floor heat but I agree wtih Cubby, if you are going to heat it all winter then it shouldn't be an issue, maybe run your runs a bit closer together around the edges...

neat way to hang your vise grips

Great idea. Simple yet very effective. I remember the first time being in a NASCAR shop I was talking to one of the fabricators and he had a MAC work cart(2 drawers I think and open on top and a bottom tray as well, with clamps and vicegrips up and down all of the legs. That was his only tool...
