    Snap On Quality?

I’ve got a few of those spinners, but not broken any yet, despite getting dropped regularly. Guessing that’s a bad batch. My most warrantied SO items are screwdriver tips (ph2 tips seem a lot softer than they used to be) and chisels. I’ve broken a few chrome sockets using them on the impact...

I found one in stock in the UK, but think I’ll pass at that price:

Phillips wear if they’re used in the wrong size screw, or if a Phillips is used in a pozi/vice versa. Occasionally the tips sheer entirely, even when using the correct driver for the screw. Flat heads twist. Ultimately they’re a wear item. For me they either need to be cheap enough I just...

Interesting to see you using snap on power tools, are they common in Germany?

Saltus is a vice grip brand I haven’t seen in a long time, sure there’s a pair or two kicking around here. What is the intent behind the vice grip holder? As an alternative to a small vice?

In absence of other factors, picking your favourite color is a valid strategy for choosing your power tool brand.

    Makita Addiction Thread

About half of my Makita kit is a decade or so old. Had one impact fail, probably because it got left out in the rain for a couple of days. Smoked a brushless motor on an SDS with a 4” core bit, but the electronics still worked fine after a motor swap.

How come common metric sets only go to 19mm but common sae sets run to 1” which would be 25mm?

Working on a lot of larger German sedans (a6/5 series etc), the larger sizes are necessary for suspension fasteners. I think the 21, 22, 24 get the most use, although I’m sure 23 comes out to play occasionally. This may have changed on the newer sedans, I haven’t yet seen anything past 2018 in...

    Tools from the old world

Found this Unior 1901 1/2” ratchet today. Seems like a solid tool, strong and the ratchet works nicely, although it’s low tooth count. Any ideas on age?

Constantly impressed with the attention to detail on your work and how you share Oli. Is it normal to do work like this yourself in Germany, or do most people hire it out like in the UK? But confused why you drive a Kangoo in Germany? Surely the German manufacturers are much nicer! (Although...
