I'm guessing to get decent speed control. You kind of need a 3 phase motor to get the variable speed. There are VFDs that will work with a single phase motor, but they are uncommon & a bit expensive. Only some kinds of single phase motor can be run with a single phase VFD...

It mostly comes down to what do you mean by variable speed. If the machine is using a VFD already, running a VFD off a VFD is going to be a bad idea. You never want to switch the output of a VFD, you always want to use the VFD to control the output. If a VFD is suddenly going to no load instead...

Daym that's cheap. No name Chinese vendor. Likely to have less than stellar documentation & support. But for low usage home gamer scenarios the specs look pretty decent. If it were a sealed unit I'd consider it for my 3hp belt grinder project.

Quincy QT-5 for $25, help me fix it

You can run it with a lower HP motor if you put a smaller pulley on & run the pump slower. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

    Underground decisions to make

Power next to data lines causes interference, especially if ran parallel for any noticable distance. I avoided this by putting fiber in my conduit next to the power conduit rather than copper. Depending on the distances & how close it may or may not end up being an issue. This goes for Ethernet...

Amps * Volts = watts. To dump the same wattage into a 575v motor you need about half the current (amps) a 240v motor (or a VFD converting 240v to 575v) to uses. There are plenty of 7.5hp & higher rated VFDs out there...

Pull off the original motor & put on a single phase one. Keep the original for nostalgia. A VFD for a compressor is going to be more expensive than a new motor & decrease efficiency on an already not super efficient system. The ability to control motor speed isn't super useful in a compressor...

Your Opinion about Craftsman 450 Piece Mechanics Tool Set

I'd go for it if you dont have anything noticably better to spend the gift card on. They shouldn't be horrible tools even if they are cheaper Chinesium. A pre-packaged set will always be missing tools you need & likely have some you never need. It's a good starting place to add tools you find...

Input on Large Harbor Freight Welding Cart???

My local welding shop will happily trade out a small customer owned bottle for a bigger one by paying the difference. They are just swapping bottles rather than actually refilling anyway. Moving from the same cheap blue open HF cart to the enclosed single unit cart partially prompted me to do...

Input on Large Harbor Freight Welding Cart???

I have the old open frame & newer enclosed single unit HF carts. The newer enclosed one is pretty nice. I like my gear not getting covered in dust & it totes my Miller Maxstar 200 (DC TIG & stick) just fine. All things considered I find the storage to be just a bit lacking. I need a bit more...

Oh, and what do you mean by starter? A magnetic starter, as in a relay & overload protection box typically used for motors over 5hp (real HP, not big box store HP). Or a start capacitor, which means it's a single phase motor. Most VFDs if not nearly every consumer accessible one are for 3 phase...

Always configure your VFD to switch off via the VFD control. If you cut power to or from the VFD you are likely to blow up the VFD. Wire up that switch to tell the VFD control inputs to turn on or off, not cut the power anywhere. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Input on Large Harbor Freight Welding Cart???

My medium sized cart fits that description... I wish it was bigger, but it's good quality for HF. Cheaper than I could maske (discounting the fact it was a birthday present). I've eyed the big cart. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
