Best Way to Insulate a Pole Barn with MBI Already Installed?

I’m in Kansas. The building was built with the 1/4” foil faced double bubble wrap on the walls and on top of the trusses. The trusses are scissor trusses, so they are vaulted. I used batt insulation on top of the ceiling metal. The only venting is each of the ribs on the metal. Haven’t had any...

Best Way to Insulate a Pole Barn with MBI Already Installed?

Another vote for metal on the ceiling. I went with the cheapest option from Menards. R19 insulation laid on top. Not great pics, but I didn’t take too many of the ceiling.

8' T12 LED replacements - (Hyperikon went bust) - or just swap to 4'?

I have used the Keystone bulbs mentioned above with good results. I've used single pin, bi-pin, and HO style bulbs to keep the original fixtures and just wire them for ballast-bypass bulbs. Saves a lot of time. We buy them at a local electrical supply house. Chris

    well pumps: cycle stop valves

I installed a CSV about 6 years ago and haven't had any issues. Definitely like the constant water pressure. Mine is set about 50 psi. I did install a 20 gallon pressure tank because I didn't like it kicking the pump on every time the toilet was flushed. Chris

    30x40 or 40x30?

30x50x12 with 2-10x10 doors. I built mine based on the layout to the house and didn't want the doors facing the road. The far end is 16' and is the work area. Chris

    IR tube heaters

I bought a 6 year old Re-Verber-Ray that sat for a year and it has worked without any issues for the last 2 and started last week on its 3rd year in my shop. I found a local distributor that carries parts here in town. This is not a lot of help, but mine has been reliable. The reason it was...

    30X40x12'4 pole barn heat options

I have a 30x50x12 pole barn shop with only the 1/4” thick radiant barrier insulation on the walls and r19 above the ceiling. I installed a propane radiant heater 2 years ago and it works great. It is installed about 12 feet from the back wall, opposite the overhead doors. It’s 30 feet long and...

    Well and bladder tank issue

I realize this post is approaching a year old, but I wanted to add that I also installed a CSV and have had excellent results. After 13 years, my 80 gal. pressure tank failed. I did a lot of research and had decided on a Well-X-Trol replacement. I like to spend the extra money to get a better...

    Concrete to Metal siding?

I had this same issue. My building and a friends were built by the same builder. I have no concrete outside, but he does. The builder poured his slab up against the siding covering approx. the bottom 2". Personally I think this looks like ****. I pulled the bottom row of screws out and pulled...

Possibly need new exterior siding, do they even make these "tiles" anymore?

Re: Possibly need new exterior siding, do they even make these "tiles" anymore? My brother has an older house with that type of siding. He found replacements at Lowes or Home Depot. I think it was Lowes. They were $10 each. They may not be an exact match, but we're very close. Chris

    Left Over Lumber... Mine, Right?

When I had my 30x50 polebarn built, the contract consisted of 2 pages and a drawing. It had the size, sizes and quantities of windows and doors, insulation, concrete specs and building colors on 1 page. The building specs were outlined on the other page. Any changes we're also noted on the 1st...

Adding a subpanel to a subpanel

Wylie and Alfred, Thanks for the info. I thought I had it right, but for some reason started second guessing it. The first subpanel (100A) (main garage panel) will have a ground rod. I wanted to make sure that putting it inside the building was OK. I've been working on this the last couple of...

    Cree LED 100w bulbs?

For my 3 car garage, which is used for mostly parking and a little work, I installed the standard base 300 watt fluorescent spiral bulbs in the 3 existing keyless fixtures. $18/bulb is a little high, but when you don't have to buy or install a fixture it is not too bad. Up until last year it...

Adding a subpanel to a subpanel

I guess maybe it wasn't quite clear if you haven't seen it. Setup is 200A Home panel -> 100A Shop subpanel -> 60A Shop sub-subpanel. I was going to wire the 60A with the 2-2-2-4 wire and install a separate ground bar. My question was about wiring the 220v outlets from the 60A panel. I wire the...

Adding a subpanel to a subpanel

I need some input on how to connect this. I just built a 30x50 detached shop. 200 amp main panel in the house, neutral and ground bars are tied together. 100 amp panel in detached shop fed from house with 2/0, 2/0, 2/0, #1. Large wire was used to compensate for voltage drop over 240 feet...
